Been commuting on my flat bar road rat for a few months and struggling to keep the front end planted in the corners. I have a 100mm stem and Schwalbe 35c cross tyres on but going into any sweeping corners at speed the front seems to want to wash out, even when I try moving my body weight forward. My mtb is a 456 and generally get on well with that. Any top tips appreciated

Sorry - a Road Rat, so yes.

Personally I bend my elbows and almost force the front into the ground, attempting to get as much weight as possible without upsetting the rear, but 'feeling' for slip and being ready to adjust slightly as it tries to give. Best way I could describe it, I'm afraid. Suspension elbows is how I think of it.

I've even managed to catch it on a manhole cover in the wet once. Cat-like reactions that left a smile of disbelief on my face...

Edit : Could be the tyres if you're using semis or knobbly on the road.
