What an atrocious piece of riding. In road racing we slow the bunch and crawl past. No big deal as time is given back by the commissaire if there is a breakaway. In time trials I have always slowed and edge across the road for a wide pass, then try and make the time up. You just don't pass horses like that. Full stop. I hope every one of the riders gets a DQ, and as for undertaking. Words fail.

And it's local to me, although I was on the Bentley by-pass all day. No horses.

Presumably you are aware of how and why roads came about?

Of course. Modern UK roads were developed in response to the lobbying of cyclists:

What's that got to do with horses?

The organisers, if they have done their job properly, should have properly signed the event, or at least some of the route. I guess being TT it’s a longer route than a typical BC circuit race, but some signage and notification would have helped.

I've never quite understood where triathlons sit legally, as they don't fit the criteria for a road race (max 80 riders, and various other constraints) or a TT (no more than one rider per minute), and they can't claim the not-really-a-race sportive defence.

Just curious, as I know all the hoops we have to jump through to organise TTs and road races, and the situation in the video couldn't arise in either. A RR would probably be neutralised if the motorbike escort couldn't alert the rider in time, and a TT would be one rider per minute - no groups swarming by. Biggest risk would be a head down TT rider not looking where they're going.

For instance, how have you reacted in the past when your horse has been struck by a cyclist?

Fortunately not been involved in a bike/horse incident. Have you? Assuming yes. How did it go?

I have however been on a horse when a quad bike and car crashed into each other about 10 yards from me. Lots of tyre squeal under braking then a crunching in the impact followed by angry people shouting at each other. How did I behave? Gave me a hell of a fright but if you have been around horses enough you seem to instinctively go into what I can only describe as 'roll model' mode for the horse - calm, authoritative, clear.

Sorry to disappoint by actually being able to answer your question. Still, I'm sure you can conjure up a cliche amusing photo. It's a really effective method of making a point.

Thank you for your reply in describing a situation where you and your horse were not struck from behind.

Perhaps you can entertain us with other anecdotes that don't involve you and your horse getting struck from behind to further compound your arrogance.

Alternatively you could stop being such a victim blaming pompous arse and

get a **** grip !

A cyclist has been banned for life from a triathlon organiser's events after a horse and rider were hit as participants raced past them.

Human Race events said a second cyclist had been handed a 12-month ban from their races following a investigation.

wonder if there'll be any wider bans for the rider from the governing body
