Today's Grauniad has a nice interactive infographic show how often people cycle in every local authority in England:

Apparently just 6% cycle once a week here in Gateshead. 😕

How come I never get asked? I know, it's because I'm always too busy riding my bike lol

17-25 for me. I'm one of the 7% who cycles 5 x a week. Except for this week, as my hub gears on the commuter exploded on Wednesday and the mtb is still in bits awaiting a new chainring after cleaning all the sand out from Swinley the other weekend...

Very interesting.

So Luton is a cyling black spot. Its vicious cirle. Cycling in an area where people rarely cycle is more dangerous than in an area where its more popular

I wouldn't trust anything produced from data from the Active People Survey to be statistically significant. They ask a tiny proportion of people and work up from that.

They quote the sample sizes for each authority. Looks like 500 is about average. That's not. too bad.

I think the bigger issue is that people lie, especially if it makes them sound healthier / fitter than they are.

I work in an 8-storey office block and usually have the cycle rack to myself.
If 6% are cycling here once a week then they aren't doing it to get to work!

A bit like a lot of folk on here; they say they are MTBers, when in reality they just own an MTB...
