I've usually had second hand bikes and sometimes struggle to move them on as they are too old. Mine are 2011 and 2010 ish currently which is young for me.

Ride them and get your monies worth.

Mine is an 2008 456Ti, and the frames s/h go for the same price I paid new.

But tbh its the bits that wear, especially if you ride them.

my oldest bike is a 1985 rebuild of a 1978 frame (road). Don't ride it any more but I'll keep it forever I think.

newest is about a month old (rigid f&f with mostly old stuff clapped on it)

I have a mid-90s zaskar frame that's going to be my commutah next year

I don't really sell stuff - just not worth it as I tend to keep things in use for quite a while and by then the sale value's **** all. Might just sell my previous rigid f&f if the new one works out; that'll be my first mtb I've sold ever

Hardtail - 8 years.
BMX - 10 years.
Tourer - 12 years.
Road bike - 17 years.

Don't want a 29'er, never owned a full susser, can't see the point in a Maxxle and tapered headtubes are for social inadequates. 🙂

Newest 3 years, oldest 18 years (how long I've had the frame, though it was NOS and actually 21yo I think). Also a 16yo and 17yo. Of course most of them are Trigger's brooms - still regularly using a set of wheels I've had 20 years which I bought s/h.

Another 08 Meta 5 here, and a 2009 Carrera Virtuoso which will hopefully be replaced with something shiny soon, because it's freakin' heavy.

I never buy bikes new (since I folded the one and only new frame I've ever bought-2nd ride out=£1k down!)

I have custom built:
-2011 Corsair Crown DH
-2007 DMR ExALT

Both running 2006 Model Marzocchi 888 and 66 as I know them inside out and can home service/tune them. Other parts are mostly new/ within a year old.

Boardman 2010 Hardtail, with many new parts.
Boardman 2012 Hybrid - pretty much standard.

I can buy bikes via cycle 2 work so can just about justify buying new...

Main bike is a 2005 SX Trail with a mixture of older and new bits.

BFe frame was bought brand new in Feb but has a lot of old stuff on it as well as a few new bits.

Road bike was bought new in January.

Also got an original Chameleon for the other half with oldish stuff on it and an early nineties Beast of the East that I'm goochng to rebuild this year (just in the process of collecting bits for it).

2011 SJ evo, the 456 is same age built up of the cheaper bits off the evo, 2010 Roubaix. I used to buy a new bike every year. by splitting frames and parts, with the evo havent had the need. saying that was off the bike for a whole year for a house refurb.

My oldest frame is from 1997 and ows me nothing, I have various bikes all from the mid 00's and my latest was bought a few weeks ago but for less than £200 and is a dirty fixie not a "Proper" bike...

But TBH we're talking about Bikes not a Car or House, if you are really going to wring your hands over "resale value" then I don't think MTBing is the sport for you...

If I can't afford to write a bike/part off altogether then I don't buy it.

I think Golf clubs hold their value quite well don't they...
