Just invested in a flea bay bargain. A 2011 genesis day one alfine 8 that has not been used since it was bought just stored a in a garage. Not had an alfine before but shifting seems ok, should I re-lube it? Also as a precautionary measure should I chuck the tyres and tubes?
Don't take this as gospel, but isn't it an oil change once a year on those? No idea how being stood that long would effect the oil though.
Personally I would dump the inner tubes and check the tyres for cracking or just change them as a matter of course.
dunk in atf every year is recommended. I would do it as the hub will run better afterwards.
Instructions on here somewhere. Its actually fairly straightforward

The 8 speed is grease lubed, but with a recommended oil dip to re-saturate the grease. Although a few people have run it on an oil or semi-fluid lube with great success. It's the 11 speed which is entirely oil lubed and needs the regular full oil change, partly because it often leaks out in fairly short order...
For the 8 speed servicing is about once every almost never IME. The yearly oil dip is a good precaution but they often go on for a lot longer trouble free. Keep an eye on the bearings though as with any C+C hub if you let them get grotty they'll die in short order, but the innards are reasonably resilient.
If it's been sitting for a while I'd do the dip for two reasons:
1> It'll give you a chance to check it IS ok, and you'll learn how to do it for later.
2> Grease might have dried out a bit over time, this can cause sticky pawls and whatnot, the dip will help get it saturated and mobile again.
Thanks for all advice, it’s an 8 speed do I’ll give it a dip. Is any ATF fluid ok?

In my case, Rocol Aerospec 100.
