I've done 121 rides this year covering 1828 miles
Now i know that will be nothing compared to some of you guys, but I'm just wondering how often you lot manage to get out for a ride, not including commuting?
A rough guesstimate for my year is 3 times a week, 2 will be after / before work between 10-12 miles and a longer ride at weekends.
I sometimes feel I'm not doing enough like Today I've not felt brilliant so didn't bother going out but the main reason I ride is to keep healthy both physically and mentally. A while ago I was drinking straight after getting in from work now I don't drink alcohol at all and just get out on the Bike if it's been a bad Day.
not including commuting
Why not? Some of my best rides have been on my commute this year.
not including commuting
Why not? Some of my best rides have been on my commute this year.
I'm just trying to get an idea of how to juggle work to find time to ride the bike for " just a ride " no particular destination
I tend to ride my bike everyday, sometimes more than once a day. Not sure on the annual mileage, I would guess at around 10000 miles ish.
7,987 according to Strava, 700 of which are commuting miles.
Quite a bit excluding my commute. I think what helps is having one group of mates into MTB and another lot that are roadies, there's always something going on.
Mileage I guess? 5000 per year. Average months about 500 miles. Some Audax months well over 1200 miles, and during cross season it really drops to about 350 miles.
I don't garmin my races or rides that I'm not leading, and I don't count my commute into any figures.
Twice a week usually for exclusively non-commutes. A lot of my rides though are commutes which are either extended or altered to fit a purpose so probably about 5 times a week if you discount the direct commutes via the shortest/easiest routes. If you include the commutes then it's about 10-12 times a week.
MTB I've done 74 rides this year and 742 miles, which on average are really short rides! I've commuted roughly 2000 miles this year too.
I just ride when I fancy it. I don't put any pressure on myself to ride every day, commute or do a certain number of miles a year. I try to ride twice a week but some weeks I do other things I enjoy. When I do ride, I go out until I've had enough then I go home.
Riding bikes are fun, but so are lots of other things!
256 rides, 5776.92 miles
lots of commuting, a whole month off after surgery.
84 rides, 1685 miles.
Try to get at least two rides a week, had a CX bike since July and I've been using this more lately for lanes/flatish forest tracks etc.
Run my own business, married with 2 kids and I manage to get 2/3 mtb rides a week. Two 1hr ones during the week (night or day) and a big one at the weekend.
Average of twice a week. 3500 miles so far this year, mostly road. I'm a fair weather rider unless riding in a group.
I keep thinking about doing a fake commute (I work from home) to get more rides in for fitness reasons.
200 rides, 3393 miles thus far this year.
Riding Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings the once or twice at the weekend.
Excluding commuting? Once a week, if that!
I'm doing well, early Spring saw me change my Roadie and then in April I bought my CX'er (but then I had a couple of months waiting for SRAM to sort the brakes out) and then it really started to ramp up. From knocking out 500miles a month to recently 8-950miles.. I've not hit 1000pmth yet but wouldn't be surprised if November isn't close to it.
I'm about equal on both bikes, and averaging out about 2-3hours per day.
I'm lucky in that I'm working from home quite a lot ATM whilst the quiet seasons in (in my world anyhoos)
December's hitting tomorrow and I expect I'll at the very least triple Raphas 500... I have some long distance CX'er routes planned and two double day stints on the Roadie set out.
My hips are aching and my calves are a bit sore but hey, gotta rideout whilst you can haven't you 8)
1,384.8 miles to date (would be about 10% road, 90% offroad)
85 rides
and the big one 🙂
258,691 ft elevation gain
No wonder I feel ****ed
Less than I'd like to.
Only normally once a week, more in the summer if I can squeeze one in before work and the weather is decent.
59 rides so far this year, 750ish miles. Mostly off road this year, just bought another roadie though so I reckon this distance will go up a bit next year.
Me ?
178 rides and managed 48.8 vertical miles 🙂
Oh... So folk are getting their excuses in first now are they?
Run my own business, single parent of 3. Ride most days/nights all year round no matter what the weather. I'd lose the plot if I didn't TBH
On average I'm out ridin about 20-30 hours a week.
350+ rides this year so far. 5500+miles
About a 50/50 split between road and mtb with a hundred or so BMX miles (if folk count them)
I'll often ride mtb like BMX as well (ie. Ride for hours sessioning stuff without really going anywhere)
I go MTB as often as I can which is obviously less often than I would like! So can usually fit in 2 or 3 MTB rides a week. More during holidays at home. Some periods of the year I commute by bike, usually winter. And when I feel like it will ride my road bike. Also some rides with my youngest. Totals c4000 miles a year.
Year to date:
180 rides, 6,135 km (3,812 miles), 136,594 m (448,143 feet) climbing.
All mountain bike, no commuting. Something to aim to beat next year 🙂
Up to the time when it was dark at 4.45, almost every day. Now 50 miles each Sat and Sun plus 22.5 about once a week. All recreational. This year is going badly, I reckon it will be around 6200 miles plus. Usually about 6500. Too much work.
My numbers are similar to,yours OP - 2 rides a week on average with an average of 60 miles a week. 90% road, 10% mtb. Not training for anything or commuting - just keeping healthy and some Sportives. Feel this much riding is a good compromise between 'enough' to maintain my fitness and move forward a bit and not taking time away from home/family life.
Not enough, a lot less than everyone here it seems 😳
68 activities doing 742 miles in total.
Riding at least twice a week, mainly evening rides but the occasional longer weekend ride.
At the moment I am down to once a week, struggling since it went dark and wet!
Two or three times a week, usually 10-12 miles a time but sometimes longer. I miss it if I don't get a chance to have a ride out.
so far
164 rides
Total 3263 miles
plus commute 938 miles
Once or twice a week.
Just under 800 miles so far this year, 95000 vertical feet of climbing.
Not enough, a lot less than everyone here it seems
Just to add some balance, zero here, and a lovely bike just collects dust.
I miss it, but enjoy convenience/cheapness of swimming & walking more with my world as it is presently.
Strava data
Year-to-Date
Distance 7,579.4 mi
Time 436h 56m
Elev Gain 530,892 ft
Rides 317
Bit hilly around Dartmoor
464miles 🙁
Mostly occasional commuting and a spate of road riding in the nice weather over the summer.
Been off the bike letting my arm heal up properly.
102 rides.
2942 miles.
My stravaaaaa's pretty incomplete but it's logged 1336 miles out of 216 rides
Every day - mostly road.
Year to date:
12,045 miles so far. (950 miles on the track/velodrome within that total)
Approx 15 hours a week.
593 rides.
735h 57m
427,864 ft
zangolin, i would have done you if i hadnt had my month off........ 😉
1647 miles
192 Rides
181 hours
My figures are a bit weird as I have done a lot more downhill and a few uplifts. I always reord each run as a seperate ride if I am getting an uplift.
150 rides , 2000mls , off road only.
I've ridden my mtb once a week this year.. Rarely more and sometimes less..
I've put in a fair few regular hilly miles with a fully laden trailer on the school run though and many more to the beach, park and supermarket
Once a week without fail year-around. During BST I get out for a few hours after work once a week too, GMT means the local leisure centre gym - hate it, but it stops the worst of the winter rust. I've tried night riding with some borrowed lights but I haven't the cash for my own set just now.
I'd love to ride more but it's always a balancing act between work, my Wife and Kids and the riding. I gave up trips to the pub with my mates years ago to 'buy' more time for riding.
Ironically I'll give all my time to my family gladly but they're also the main reason I could never give up the MTB - I'm a better Dad when I've destressed riding and with luck it'll keep me fit into my 40's and well beyond.
Twice a week summer, once a week winter if weather half decent. Run 4-5 days a week. More if bike stays in shed.
Strava says:
Year-to-Date
Distance 2,527.1 mi
Time 166h 25m
Elev Gain 58,383 ft
Rides 139
And I have no reason to disbelieve it.
I don't differentiate between rides and commuting TBH.
Looking at the profile it seems April, June and September were all pretty much wasted, I will be aiming for a stronger finish to December so I can take it over 3000 miles, and I quite fancy trying out an audax or two in the new year goal for next year it to ride more than this year I'll keep it as simple as that.
Stats so far this year:- 2483 miles, 258,225ft elevation gain, 252 rides.
Year-to-Date
Distance 3,210.4 mi
Time 358h 0m
Elev Gain 226,617 ft
Rides 233
70 rides in 2014 so far (mix of MTB and road), which I'm OK with considering I also run (111 runs so far) and do gym sessions (38 so far in 2014).
There's a regular 9 mile commute involved, but strava so far says:
255 rides, 4,963km to date.
There's also a fair amount of DH sessions/ pump track play in there too. I think I've only been on two road rides which werent commutes, so there's been a lot of MTB kms!
10405km, 70/30 road/mtb split, including commuting (why wouldn't you include it? mines minimum 31km each way)
had february off though illness, well apart from 90km
So far this year. 111 rides. 2804km.
1671 miles distance
226,377 feet elevation
251 hours
103 activites
That's 94 mtb rides and only 7 road 🙂
Virtually bugger all.
Lot of personal stufff going on prior to an Achilles tear in June - just starting to get back into it now.
Incey-wincey local one - Dark Peak next Sat which although only 20-odd miles will test my still-dodgy left leg to the max!
I generally average 3-4 rides per week
5-7 days a week for me and love it
Excluding commuting, have ridden the big bike twice since getting back from the Alps in August. Commute by bike almost every day if I can though.
12+ Miles a day commuting
Get on the MTB most Sundays, during the summer I was getting a couple of rides a week on the trails in the Olympic Park on the way back from work.
Weekends mainly, 1,799.9 km so far according to Strava.
4243 miles ytd from 205 rides. Mostly road or on my Cx bike with a few mtb rides a couple of times a month.
Apart from commuting I probably get for a proper ride once a month or so, if that. I even took my mtb to Spain and France in the summer and only rode it to the camp site toilets!! Admittedly I was I'll for most of the holiday but I just don't seem to ride much lately. 😥
Distance - 2,861.8 mi
Time - 257h 8m
Elev Gain - 276,227 ft
Rides - 131
Commutes - zero
Young children - 2
Puppies - 1
Typical days worked per week - 6
So I'm OK with that under the circumstances.
No stats, but 5 or 6 times per week. Typically weekends for mountain-biking and mid-week for roady. Mileage dropped since summer but still getting out just as regularly.
179 🙂
108 rides
2519 miles
No commuting and 95% off-road
Had a girlfriend most of the year - don't now - doing WAY more ride & miles 🙂
Must exceed it next year!
Done 4625 miles this year, but about 2500 of that is commuting. Looks like I ride my MTB roughly once a fortnight, and about the same for the road bike.
Managed 4 imperial centuries this year, including my first 200k audax. Trying to finally hit 5000 miles this year after several years of trying. Managed to stay remarkably healthy this year, but family commitments this last month and running up to Christmas will make it tight.
Next year I need to work on quantity not quality.
Simply not enough.
Either I'm going to have to ditch my bikes...or my wife. I'm sadly in two minds at the moment! Lol
Woefully not enough this year, new job and living in central London, less than twice a month for the mtb only very mild consolation is daily 20 mins of commuting. 2012 seems a distant memory when I was doing 3 rides a week. My last wet and muddy ride I did 12k and 300m climbing in 2 hours elapsed, sadly the less you do the less fun it is as everything is a struggle. 🙁
Strava says 70 rides ytd, 832miles (95% off road) and 126,200ft of elevation.
I'm down on my norm, but still hoping to crack 1000miles (I lost many weeks of riding time due to surgery and radiotherapy).
Strava can GTF.
I ride mtb every Sunday morning and every other Friday. Chuck in a couple of race weekends and a week I nt thAlps. That's my lot
1-2 a week at the mo, usually pootles round the lanes on the single speed once the reptiles are in bed. Been a crap year riding wise but compensated for by (although caused by) arrival of reptile 2.
Gonna get back on the triathlon horse next year though and have a cunning plan to get about 100 road miles in a week.
670 miles - 47 rides - 53 pasties - 35 egg and bacon sandwiches and probably too many cheese straws to count. Next year target is to ride more than eat pasties!
8709km
310 rides
528hrs
119km vertical
Year-to-Date
Distance 3,246.0 mi
Time 266h 40m
Elev Gain 103,967 ft
Rides 336
Girlfriend being 170 odd miles away, 70 hour weeks and single parenting have ruined my off road riding and vertical ascent. Worth it in the long run.
Bike?
Not enough this year although I was still out 3 or four times a week. But I lost my road mojo this summer which restricted my riding a bit (its just easier).
I rode loads last summer, both MTB and road and enjoyed it more because I was much fitter. This year has been disrupted by work and the arrival of mini me (although I did ride loads in September just before he turned up). Since then....erm, four or five rides plus a couple of turbo sessions.
The only saving grace is that I have ridden more new places to me this year - BPW, CYB, CwmCarn, Eastridge.
I am starting to get a few more rides in now that mini me is getting a bit easier and starting to sleep through at night.
229 rides
477 hours
4,859 miles (turbo rides in the number and hours)
83k vertical
Almost all mountain bike but a lot of that on the road
*looks at floor*
838km
48 hours
10.8k vertical
That's with a broken arm, so I've been off the bike since June. So, in my head I'm doubling that 🙂
1523 miles, this year, but so little, this year ..
short 4 mile circuit every morning without fail, rain or shine, before work to get the head clear and blood flowing but i suppose that mounts up over the year 1,460 miles + occasional 10 mile commute to work and weekend rides but not so much over winter.
1100 miles on the MTB, 3048 miles on the road (almost all commuting though), 347,000 ft of climbing. Ride once a week on the MTB generally, daily commuting unless I'm not in the office.
272 rides, 5606 miles. Thats all road miles, I don't log off road miles.
Hope to hit 6000 by the end of the year.
