Just realised it's been ages since changed the brake inners on my cx bike. Might wait until had it through a proper muddy ride before change them but wondered how often people change their inners and outers?

When they start getting stiff, use a new or bike with new cables as a yardstick

They're on their way out but wondering if just changing the inners will just be a stop gap and end up having to replace the outers soon?

Every time I change the shifters...which isn't often!

The set on my AM bike are feeling a little rough, but that's because the outers are about three and a half years old - I transplanted them, complete with shifter units from an old bike.

cheers, I normally fire some dry lube on inners before fit them so might just do that and keep the outers for another year.

off the bike? Just pull out the inners and slide some new ones in? On the cx and road bike (as mtb is ss and hydraulic discs) so run under bar tape

When they need them... Though tbh that mostly means when I change frames, decent cables last ages.
