After getting all excited with the USE outlet store thread I was brought down to earth with carbon bars that are only 660 mm wide.
These days anything less than 780 mm feels awful.
Anyone still rocking sub 700 mm bars on a regular basis?

On my two bikes the bars are cut down to 720mm then with the grips installed they come up as 730mm.

780mm. I recently popped some 700mm wide bars that I had knocking about. They felt very twitchy!

785mm and considering wider.

I recently came across another item in someone's treasure trove where I am. An utterly unused, still in the box, Kore Strictly-D bar. I was interested until the seller measured it at 680mm wide and thought to myself, why? when I had a set way back in the day, did I ever think this width was usable.....

Still might buy threm for nostalgia. Only £12

Last bars were 680, and current bars on the ebike are 780, but ive a new bar coming thats 720, ill see how I get on with that.(Carbon ones from the USE sale) but they were really cheap, so if they feel too weird, theres no harm done.

I have three different bars on rotation on a doitall 29er

Depending on ride

MTB- 780mm - 8° back/5° up
ATB- 680mm - 25° back/6° up (On One OG bar)
Gravel/road - 620mm flat/ 5° back (Bontrager RXL w/Ergon GP-3 bar-ends)

I’m thinking of cutting the 780 down to 760 but yeah but no but…

760 & 780 here.

Actually, I’m looking for some 700mm carbon bars for my other half’s bike. Nearly went for those 720mm USE bars… and then half remembered that they can’t be cut down to 700 because of the reinforcement inserts at the end. Can anyone remember better than be? They are from the deep past, aren’t they. When bars were a whole different story width wise.

730mm plus grips = 740mm with a -5mm rise.

Just swopped out my wider bars to some 690 straight bars on my scandal for a bike packing trip.  Some came creek ergon bar ends on the end and some inboard bar ends for varied hand position. Bike felt great and a lot better for manoeuvring in traffic.

For ‘proper’ MTB rides my bars are 760mm.

However I have an old retro Kona that I put some 660mm bars on (which felt huge compared to the sub 600mm stock ones) and I use that for quick spins round the woods after work etc.

800mm, I have wide shoulders. I did dabble with 820mm but that was a bridge too far.

I've settled on 770mm after experimenting with 800, a OneUp 35mm clamp bar on a 60mm stem.

I used to race on 580mm and went up to the heady heights of 600mm. KCNC Scandium flat bars with a 110mm SC Wing stem (25.4) - bet they'd feel bloody sketchy now!

All bikes were on 800.
Then I moved to The Tweed Valley
Instantly cut everything down to 780 and considering going a tad narrower.
Think they planted the trees closer together up here.😜

800mm on the Stooge and 760mm on the HT. The Stooge bars have all the back sweep

Similar to funkmasterp I've 800mm Stooge Moto Bars on the Stooge and 740mm on the Big Dog.

I'm only 5'5 and slightly built so the Moto bars are overkill really but as it's singlespeed the extra leverage can be handy. Also the backsweep helps a lot.

The 740mm bars only have 6 degrees of backsweep and I'm thinking of replacing them with something a bit longer and more backsweep as I've never been that keen on them.

One of the things which prompted my recent thread was finally identifying that the stock 660mm bars on my Trek were probably too narrow for my shoulders. Changing to 750mm bars has just put me in a better position on the bike so I'm much happier when out riding.

685mm (550mm on the pub bike).
It's not that I'm particularly sceptical about more modern geometrics and trends, I'm just really comfortable on my out-moded bikes.
Still manage to punch trees on occasion.

Marasa has default 690 (including grips) on it, keep thinking about grabbing the 747 Knuckleballs off the fatbike, but also got a 610 carbon set in the spares box.

380 on the road bike.

I borrowed my brother’s bike with 720 bars on it while at BPW so he could ride my bigger bike (to give him a rest) and they felt twitchy for the first half of a run then I didn’t notice. But I wouldn’t go any smaller than that. To be honest I’ll stay on 780 as they suit my wide shoulders.

I'm using them at 780 just now, cut down from 800mm on both bikes, always feel i'll hit a tree with the narrow stuff on FoD trails so that was the main driver for taking 20mm off, but anything less than 780 feels like i've got a narrow grip, 35mm stems on both probably push me to having longer bars as well.

760. 800 just meant too many clipped trees!
