Thinking of getting my rockshox recon forks serviced,it will be the first time ive had to get forks serviced so was wondering how much.I get a little bit of oil coming out of them every now and again,im not sure if thats major or not but think ill get them looked at.I live near a evans,je james and edingburgh cycle shops.cheers
Just take it in to have a look. It may just need a new seal.
Have you been doing DIY services on the lowers? They like the oil changing every so often (25 hours riding IIRC). You can do this yourself with an allen key. Your local shops can do this was well, but as it needs doing fairly often it's worth doing it yourself (unless your the kind of person who keeps LBS's in business paying them to fix your gears).
As for oil coming past the seals, a little bit is OK, it's how the seals stay lubed, a lot (i.e. big black gunky rings on the stanchions or oil running down the lowers isn't OK and needs new seals, simmilarly none at all and a stiff fork probbaly means they're long gone and so is all the oil!
If it needs more than a lowers service then you can change most of the seals yourself with a few more tools, but if that's beyond you it's about £100 to get LOCO or TF to do them.
Use them till they die.
£100 to change oil in them is crazy waste of money!
What is the best source of seals - for Recons?

Oil, and seals and take them apart to see if anything's FUBAR.
Agreed it's a lot of money, especially on recon's where it's possible to do it DIY, but a lot of newer forks aren't so easy to do (lots of bladders and bleeding involved in some forks).
We've got pattern kits for damper and dual/solo air springs and the later seal kits too all pretty cheap.
