Anybody know what a fair price is?

It's in good nick, it's silver with white graphics and it's got a dropped top tube so it's older and prettier than the straight top tubed version.
It's got the Giant branded shock.

Also, does anybody what length and stroke the shock is?

Cheers J

Ask him what he wants first, if it feels reasonable pay it?

And measure the shock might be a good starting point...

Surely he knows what year it is? Given the Trance has been around 10 years, there's a lot of options.

165x38 for a 100mm travel one, which puts it at 2008 or 07, if it has the pierced down tube for the shock rather than bent it's earlier than that.

I have an old trace (100mm travel, 2008) that's only seen two years use. I've offered it to a couple of mates for free if they wanted it.

So I'd say, "nothing"...but your friend might not be feeling as generous/wanting to clear space.

So I'd say £50 if it's in ok nick, if the shock's recently serviced, newish bearing etc. - maybe £100.

If you're anywhere near bristol you can have mine for £50 collected, it's an XL but even if you get your mates mine has a Fox RP2 on it and a brand new set of bearings with it (not fitted yet), plus seat clamp, headset etc... worth it for the bits...

I have a 2006 Reign Frame with Fox RP2 shock, was thinking it was worth £50 - £100max so a Trance would be similar I would guess.

I thought one of the (early) trance models had a really weird shock size, that you couldn't get an off the shelf replacement for. So be careful if the shock is bust or hasn't be regularly serviced.

I could be interested in one of the frames from someone or something similar, ideally a Large, but if your willing to post yours IA, I could be interested if you have any pics that you could send. (Email in my profile)

If anyone has a trance in L they want to get rid of for the sort of money we're talking about above, I'm in the market. Might even take a S too as a colleague is looking for a FS for his missus

The Trance went from having the " bridge " from the top tube to the seat tube in favour of the hydro formed top tube in 08. At which point it was still a 100mm bike. A year or two later it went to 120mm and became the Trance X , then underwent another change to a straight top tube and tapered head tube in about 2011,
I bought a 100mm one in 08 just as something to ride when not doing other stuff. 6 years on and riding has become my main sport again.
All that remains in use of the original set up is the frame , Deore cranks and Fox R rear shock. At the heart of my upgrades is a 140mm revelation fork and a decent tubeless wheel set. The bike is now a truly useful trail bike which pedals uphill easily too and , now a little slacker, remarkably capable on the downs and gets ridden off-road at least 3 times a week.
I'm sure that the Giant own brand shock didn't appear until the 125mm version came out .
I was also told by a guy at BETD , when I was buying top bushes for my g/f s 2012 trance that the shock has similar hardware to Fox and is probably built by them. Can't confirm this though !

I had a 2007 Trance with 140mm Pikes on the front. Was a little too small for me but it was a great bike. That's why I quite fancy another one 🙂

Thats not old. 😉

I have a 2005 Trance, it still does pretty much everything its modern counterparts do, The rear suspension is essentially the same as the trance's sold today, so I'll keep riding it.

I've seen 2005-2006 frames go for £150, but that was on ebay.

The old 100mm Trance was a really solid trail bike with a slightly longer fork (I liked it at 120mm) or a workable (if heavy) XC bike with a 100mm fork. I also had a single offset bush in mine which slackened it a touch without having to run a 140mm fork (which raised the bb a bit much for my liking). I loved mine even though it was a hodge podge of mismatched parts and things from bargain bins, and would have loved to keep it. But I sold it when I had an extended period off the bike last year and had an itch for something newer and with bigger wheels:

I rode this one (as part of a team) to 3rd in category at Sleepless, and a 1st in Oktoberfest in 2012, when it was already 'obsolete' (ok, it was the vets, but a win's a win 🙂 ). The fact you can pick these frames up for £50-100 shows that: 1. mountain biking is a potentially no where near as expensive as it seems and 2. mountain bikers, including myself, are absolute shiney shiney consumerist idiots.

i quite like my trance. I paid £170 but it came with xt cranks and a maverick dropper. it wasnt mint but good enough. Going to get some offset bushings soon.

If you can get one for £50 i'll be amazed, astonished, and ever so slightly gutted. In fact if its a medium at £50 i'll have it and i'll sell you my large.

The various people above interested in mine, it's an XL. I'm at the top end of fitting it at 6'4", you want to be 6' plus for it to be right for you. You also need forks that'll fit a 200mm head tube, so 240mm+ steerer.

I'm not gonna post it, cos it's a hassle and I don't have a box, and it's not worth it for little money. Based in Bristol but do travel a bit.

Pics etc, see my old posts in the classified http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/fs-xl-giant-trance-maxle-rebas (rebas gone now). Just noticed the pics are offline I can dig them out later if people care.

Sorry to upset, but someone can have mine for £50 if they fetch it off me at a convenient time and place. It's currently just getting in my way.

xl is gate sized so not too upset!

my large is pretty big. I'm 6ft and i think i`d prefer one smaller to be more fun. it does technically'fit' i guess. i can get the seat low enough to do fun stuff if i dont run a dropper. otherwise i smack my bollocks on the saddle alot which isnt great for concentration when airborne.

Sorry peeps, bit more info for you. He thinks it's a 2010 & I asked about shock length because I have Monarch from my Mega (200x57) sat in the garage.

I thought that asking other folks how much they'd paid would be a fair way of working out a price..
