Just been bleeding my brake but it's still spongy. I think I lost a lot of fluid out of it because a bolt came loose and a lot got pumped out. I probably put about 2 or 3 reservoirs worth of fluid in it (carefully following the Hope instruction video)and stopped when the air bubbles stopped coming out.

I don't want to keep pumping fluid through it needlessly.

Thanks.

I'd expect to pump at least a few more through, helps if you've got no high spots in the hose routing to create air pockets too.

If it,s still spongey then you've still got air in it.so you need ti repeat the bleed process.
Make sure you have pushed the pistons back in before you start. Also make sure that the bleed nipple is pointing upwards if its not every time you close the nipple it will suck a bit of air in. This is particularly important on bikes with chainstay mounted calipers like Ragleys but can happen if your bike is at a funny angle in a bike stand.

Have you tried back bleeding it instead of using the Hope method.

i.e. injecting fluid via the calliper bleed nipple and aspirating the excess at the reservoir? A back bleed is arguably a more efficient way of bleeding Hopes.

I have indeed, but with my mono minis I don't like the risk of over flowing my master cylinder! The hope method works fine and no risk of spillage when working on your own(you can't see the master cylinder whilst working on the rear brake).
By the way i have your universal brake kits its a great bit of kit!

Back bleeding only works if the hose conection is the highest point in the calliper, if the bleed point is higher it'll not displace any air higher than the hose connection.

Agree it is often quicker than doing them by the 'squeeze the lever and open the nipple, close nipple, release lever' method though.

Even quicker way is to suck it out the calliper (either with a vaccuum kit or just pull a syringe) and just top up the resevoir as it drains.
