..... Building wheels?
How much per wheel? Do they discount a bit for a pair?
Something normal, say Mavic 717 on SLX (Just the labour, not the price of the wheel)
Cheers
🙂
i would be interested in an answer also please? i want my white spokes on a rear wheel replacing with black ones. 36 hole if that makes a difference
Is it not just based on the hourly rate? The wheelbuilder we used to use when I worked in a shop used to turn out an acceptable wheel in less than half an hour from parts to true!
I believe I build a more accurate, and to me, better, wheel but at my peak, I build a wheel a day.
I have been quoted £40 per wheel.
if I remember correctly my LBS http://badassbikes.co.uk/bike-servicing.php was about £30 a wheel labour but that was a couple of years ago and they have updated their site so can't check. I would expect about £40 a wheel, maybe a discount of £10 on two or a discount if you buy all/most of the bits from them.
£36 here.
big al at wheelcraft rebuilt a wheel of mine with new spokes for £25. the £25 included the new spokes
Evans quote £30.95 per wheel
A couple of other local places quote £29.95 per wheel and £35 per wheel (£60 pair) respectively.
I have been quoted £40 per wheel.
£36 here.
Christ, I'm too cheap! 🙂
the £25 included the new spokes
That's a good price.
So - this is another "promoting your own business" thread?
Nope. I'm not a business. 🙂
I build wheels for mates, that's all. Was £10/wheel, but that's just gone up! 😉
To be fair I have just been trained, so I'm probably as good as most LBSs now, I wasn't shoddy before....
£25 a wheel but that seems cheap been ages since it changed
£30 + cake per wheel.
Glad I got mine done when I did then Peter!
same as above £25-£30
But my lBS builds wheels for free if you buy all the parts off them,
Pete, yeah, true! 🙂
But since then I've had some training and bought £300 worth of professional wheel building tools to be fair!
Yours will be fine, I've never had a problem with any I've built.
I'll probably go to £20/wheel £35/pair
Where are you located Peter?
Farnborough, Hants. 🙂
we charge £20 per wheel if you bring all the bits in, usually free if we supply all the bits (unless its something really odd like snowflake lacing etc)
I lace mine and take it to my local witchdoctor for the tensioning voodoo, costs me £10 an end.
Try building them yourself, it's a beautiful thing!
It is. I do. 🙂
Does cake come with the wheels? Two pieces for a pair mind. 😉
I get mine done for £10 per wheel but it's not the lbs 😉

really? I think it's a real PITA.
£35.00 plus spokes, are the prices plus spokes?
Funny that, I was in All Terrain today and Ben said £40+ something. I guess that might include std spokes...
It's a rebuild on Pro's II I need.
717 already on rear; front was tacoed by kind car driver in a crash so might be new 717 or 719..
My LBS charged 20 quid to build mine. I supplied all the bits.
I got charged £15 per wheel at Slam69 in Gloucester, Just Riding Along charge £20
