Hi all im after advice.
I sold my large 09 enduro which had a top tube length of 620mm, I found the ride of this with the standard 90mm stem good for long rides but not so good for twisty stuff.
As you probably know Ive bought a Turner 5 spot in large and the top tube is 599mm coupled with a 70mm stem and i feel like im quite upright and as such the ride position feel really alien and uncomfortable.
Would 40mm make that much difference to the way my bike feels or is just a case of getting use to it??
I also feel as though im putting quite a lot of weight on my hands on this bike too, unfortunately i cant raise the stem up any higher as the stem wont clamp the steerer properly then??
any ideas??
I guess i should of posted this before putting the frame up for sale but im finding it really difficult to get on with the bike.
cheers
steve
How tall are you?
183cm or 6 foot.
See if you can borrow a slightly longer and higher rise stem (or use higher rise bars), might help a bit?
If you've not had it long, it might just take some time to get used to it so bear that in mind too 🙂
thanks, ive put wider bars on which had higher rise already.
There is 40mm difference between my road bike and my MTB and I'm now realising the difference incomfort.
I'm a tad over 6 foot and ride a large, 90mm stem with 15 degree rise, medium risers, inline seatpost. Fits me fine, maybe you just need to get used to it.
Mind, sounds odd that you think you're too upright but still have too much weight on your hands
was thinking of going for a slightly longer stem with more rise.
the bike came with a 100mm stem and i got the piss took out of me.
show us a piccy of yours johnners
If the seat tube angles are different(steeper, you may be sitting further forward. That and did you run inline/similar posts in both frames?
In terms of having the piss taken, i wouldn't be bothered. If it fits and you're happy, does it matter? I'm still running 110mm btw 😆
try a longer stem?
There are two "lengths" to fit.
One's "seated length"
One's "stood length"
You can have a bike that's short when you're sat down, but long stood up, but shoving your saddle forward.
You can have a bike that's short when you're stood up, but long when you're sat down by having a really short stem.
Bike fit is about working these two things to get where you want to be.
I like bikes that are kind of short sat, but quite long stood up. I'm a bit odd.
Brant,
I really dont understand a word of what you have just put there
my knee is inline with the pedal spindle when im sat down which i find comfiest.
however i feel well upright and too close to the bars but yet still feel like im putting a of weight through my wrists??
is that possible??
How high is the BB compared to your Enduro? If it's significantly higher then it may give the sensation of tipping you forward, hence weight on wrists despite shorter reach. It's that saddle to bars relationship in terms of height to each other, not just distance.
all that sat and stood length garble has given me a headache!
