Hi all,

I'll try and keep this brief...

I've seen a road bike for sale for about 150 quid, it's a Boardman Comp Road 2014.
But it's got a bit of damage to the top tube...

https://www.olx.bg/d/ad/boardman-shoseen-velosiped-CID618-ID8CXGG.html#ddfb26efad

I'm living in Bulgaria and the second hand bike market is a nightmare, so this bike would be great for me.

Is it roadworthy or a health hazard??

WWSTD?

Thanks.

Doesn't look too outrageously bad from the photos - it's a beast of a scraping but doesn't appear to be a serious dent or fold of the top tube. Can you take a look at it in person to see if there's any deformation in the tube? There might be a little bit in the last photo, but for £150 with nothing else available I'd say it's a go-er.

One of those pictures looks like someone’s had a go with filler (to me, at least). To answer the question though, cosmetic damage on a metal frame wouldn’t cause me any concern if the price was right.

Wow, erm, no. I think if you lean bike that hard into a corner, the frame will fold in half. It's a no from me!

Looks more than a dent to me, but filled to hide the actual damage. I'd expect see metal edges under that filler, or at least a decent crack.

I’d skip that one personally. The second of the new photos make it look like the tube is far from tubular - dented to the point it’s almost the start of a fold.

Hard to imagine what might even have caused that kind of damage. I think it'd be a no from me, but maybe you could pick up a frame elsewhere..?

Yeah, the latest photos have really put me off.
It's not about the money it's about the safety aspect.
Maybe still worth it for the parts though.

Thanks all,

On a trainer? Fine. On the road? Do you have a good dentist?

Nope.

Clumsiness while removing a lock while stealing it in the UK perhaps?
