I've replaced a pair of wheels because a) I wanted to, and b) spokes rusty (some of which snapped in the rear) and c) corrosion on rims (internal and external).
However I'm wondering about stripping the rims and repainting them. I'd estimate that some of the pitting is perhaps about 0.5mm deep, and there's spots of it here and there around the inside and outside of both rims. Other than that they've been good tough rims.
If you were thinking of making some old alu rims nice again, how much corrosion before you'd just bin them instead?
They sound pretty past it 🙁 . I'd imagine rims can't be much thicker than 2.5-3mm, so 0.5mm pitting sounds like a lot.
What have you been doing to get them like that?
Used to ride a lot on the coast.
I'd say at the worst points is possibly as much as 0.5mm but mostly less than that.
