I have 3 but need to reduce it, the Ti looks likely to get the push

Who needs more than one HT? (Need help letting go)

I know what you mean. I currently have the Fatbike and the venerable "Onion" but the 29er will replace the latter 🙁

I have 3 - xc race, trail/general riding, and a playful one with flat pedals and 140mm travel forks. Why would I want less?

Have owned 3 at the same time in the past.

Now have one HT that suits my needs/wants much better than any of the 3 predecessors did.

Need is highly subjective though... It's not about need, never has been. But if you can afford it, and enjoy it, why bother trying to justify it?

I have two mostly so I can write authoritative posts on mtb forums about how good slack-angled long-forked HTs are compared to stiffback XCJ short-travel HTs

Dirt jump, xc hardtail and bmx.

Could possibly get it down to 2 😉

convert one to rigid, and then technically it is not a hardtail.

Luckily, rigid is not the same as HT so you can therefore justify having several (in cycling terms, several is acceptable as a number)... 😉

I'll have 2 soon due to moving to Oxford. I've got my current one which will be used for riding rougher Wales stuff and DH tracks on and then I'll be build a light, rigid thing for riding on the Oxford trails. If I find some DJs then I may also end up with a bike for that too1

I cannot believe that Scott were making HTs in 1971 nor Ragley in 1967... 🙄 😆

u-turn forks and a triple should enable just one.

I have 3 1/2, mainly because I can't bear to sell or let them go when I move on to something new.

BFe with 150mm - current main ride
Mk2 Trailstar with 80mm - just because...
Old Lee Cooper XC frame (SS rigid with slicks) - built as a commuter but doing that on the BFe at the moment

The 1/2 is the Mr Hyde that was replaced by the BFe - it's halfway to being built as a silly street/play bike - 100mm forks and whatever bulletproof gear I can find in the garage.

Also collecting bits for a raw/chrome rat/town/pub bike which will be HT number 5 I guess.

No other bikes BTW.

slainte 😳 rob

All my bikes are HT,

Dialled PA - Main do it all MTB
One Inbred SS - local winter mud and sometimes with 1x9 + childseat
Planet X kaffenback - commuter, CX and lately tri
Tandem - touring and child carrying duties
Ragleigh rapid reactor! - £18 off ebay, riding to shops & swimming pool, left outside & always unlocked - it rocks!

OK, probably not the list you were expecting but they're all HTs

3 is good, I reckon you should stick with it. Mine-
Dialled Alpine with 140 U-turn Pikes, double & bash; great out on proper hills and trails.
Inbred with 100 Bombers, set up quite xc and often getting the last few miles out of old tyres from the one above; a great local hill commuter and mellow singletrack tool.
Inbred 29er, rigid carbon fork, discs and long gearing- used as a road bike with skinny slicks, as a tourer with trailer or do mild off-raod duties with CX tyres.
Yes, there's a bit of overlap there but most days it's very easy to choose what to take out.

1x rigid forked 69er 1x 9

Not me, but I know someone that posts on here often enough that does... They are setup quite differently though.

I have in the past owned a BFe and Genesis Altitude (very very similar to the Soul) at the same time though. Found the BFe too harsh/stiff for my liking (was a Mk1 with the enormous seat stays) so sold it on, kept the Genesis, then when I found a Ti version of that for cheap in the classifieds, I bought that... And that's what I ride now.

Quite a bit of overlap there RD. I know which one I'd drop if it were me, but it's your call. If you love them equally, then keep them all, but if there's one you only ride cos you feel you should from time to time, then it's probably time to downsize.

I'm going to have 2 or 3 shortly.

Dialled PA built rufty-tuftyish with long forks and Archs for larking about and rocky, steppy stuff.
Dekerf Ceneration built airy-fairy ish with 80mm SIDs and Crests or Alpines and stuff for mellower and long distance pathy rides and very occasional races.
Singular Peregrine for everything else (except downhill or sand or snow or BMX or trials)

1 x 26" rigid SS
1 x 26" suspension fork 3x9
Currently building a 29er rigid 1x10

So I think they are all sufficiently different to justify owning them. Although who am I justifying to? You lot? Myself?

I have three. They all have different builds, drive train configurations, and weights, and forks are 150mm, 120mm and 100mm. I am thinking of getting rid of one, but have no idea which one to choose as each is great in their own way, but I am running out of space in the house.

If you work out how many different permutations of hardtail that are possible I think we'd all find out how surprisingly restrained we all are 😉

I'd say as many as one can get away with.

I've got 3 and if I had the space/money I'd get a rather fetching 29er - just to be fashionable. 🙂

Er N+1!

I've expanded the formula N+N+1, but it really should be N to the power 3 + 1

I'm greedy as you'll see if you read my how much Sh*t I carry for a road ride.

1x rigid forked 69er 1x 9

rOcKeTdOg - is that your Wanga?

How successful was it the time you put 29er (700c?) wheels front/back with drops - or was it a frankenbike?

Getting pressure to buy a road bike for the Bealach Mor but trying to resist. Bigger wheels might keep the guys I am riding with quiet...

Only have one bike, so now feeling decidedly under-biked, however, at least I never have to deal with the tortuous quandry you lot must face just deciding which of your many steeds to ride.

Thankfully, running 140-120-100 TALAS forks and a 3 x 9 transmission means my lonely hardtail will cover most eventualities.

Really fancy a Soul though, just a nagging 'want' I can't seem to shake. 1 x 10 for preference.
