I got bored last night, and built up my old Surly Instigator as an SS 😎 not quite finished yet, but hoping to ride it later.
Just taking stock in the garage, and I've got 4 bare MTB frames, 3 road frames, at least 4 sus forks and a couple of rigid forks, wheels to spare, a mountain of tyres, bars and stems out of my ears, and probably 3-4 sets of MTB brakes (some Shimano, so maybe not working!), road calipers, a box of cranks (mostly retro square taper though!), a whole filing cabinet full of saddles, seatposts, and pedals...and sundry grips, bolts, cassettes, chains, cogs, derailleurs, shifters, and cables.
All in all, without buying anything new, I could probably build up 3 of the MTBs and one of the road bikes (maybe 2).
Am I an outlier here, or are all cyclists horders? 😆
Oh, yeah, there's already 7 working bikes in there (10 if you include the kids' bikes)
Over lockdown I've built up two 26 hardtails and one tandem. I reckon there's enough left for two more shonky rim braked 26ers. I never throw out anything that works and this last couple of months has vindicated that.
Loads of parts kicking around but no 'spare' frames to hang any of them on, so... none.
I could probably assemble 3 or 4 bikes from the spares bin, I currently have two in progress.
And 8 working bikes (5 of which are mine)...
It's maybe a little out of hand?
None. I've made alit of progress in reducing/reusing my spares.

Before lockdown, 3 maybe 4 all top spec. Now we don't have a spare frame but could do the rest.
Ideally could do with moving on two full Enduros and a ebike.
Problem is tend to move stuff on and then see a bargain and buy it.
Got given a couple of frames, a couple sets of forks and a some parts during lockdown through here. Have built 3 bikes in total and given them to friends. Also given away a few kids bikes I have been given over the past couple of years. People locally know I like bikes and give them to me (only kids ones though) to repurpose. Haven't taken a penny for any of them, even if I've had to buy cables etc. Don't mind doing it, gives me something to do.
Got one frame, forks and a wheelset left. Debating how to go about doing this one depending on what parts I can now afford. So to answer the question, none at the moment.
In fact maybe I should offload a frame to head off the temptation...
Anyone want a 2013 commencal supernormal 29? Previous owner fitted a BB 30-BSA adaptor and rattle canned it black...
Probably got most of the bits for one bike, which I might knock together for the missus seeing as I sold her bike during lockdown.
Got a couple of spare frames, but nowhere near enough parts to build them up.
Two frames and two sets of wheels but only one fork now, but no brakes.
After a lock down/ furlough clear out I no longer have enough to build a bike but I have a spare 700c rear road wheel, 2 pairs of 700c tyres, 2 X 26 tyres, a pair of SRAM guides with sticky lever pistons, a pair of riser bars, 2 sets of flat pedals, half an XT 9 speed cassette, 2 x 9 speed chains ,a spare 105 11 speed cassette and chain, a set of inner cables , a set of Swiss stop 105 brake pads and pair of new 9 speed jockey wheels.
... I think this thread needs a swap function.
STW multicoloured swap-shop!
I seem to have more 9 speed drive components than you could shake a stick at.
I also seem to have about 50% of all hope brake adaptors ever made.

Yet another STW swap shop?!?
At least watches are easier to post...
2 to 3 I reckon...4 frames that I can remember (plus older ones like Orange Prestige), maybe 6 or 7 sets of suspension forks, couple of boxes of spares and a lot of 26" tyres. Bit down on brakes & wheels though. This was the year to sell and I really need to crack on!
Probably a couple max. Over the last few years, I have been gradually winding down my spares stock. Built up a couple of bikes as favours, upgraded my kids bikes, shared vintage parts with like-minded friends.
It’s feels really good to see parts used again and enjoyed by other - certainly feels better for me than boxes of spares in the garage!
None. If I am not using a part on the one bike I own I sell it wherever possible. Otherwise it gets recycled.
None, at the moment. Which is the first time in a decade probably.
Just did a shakedown ride on the Surly, ye gads it feels short and steep compared to my newer bikes!
Fun though 😀
Had everything bar a frame, though I’m at the ‘one in, one out’ stage at the mo, so now I’m selling off all the bits that take up space/I’m sick of looking at/tripping over.
We decided that it was going to be one out non in this year and was doing well up to a couple of months ago. Next new arrival is out for delivery. However when it arrives and everything is swapped over then at least one will have to go 🤔
None dont have many spares only tubes and grips and nuts and bolts do have whole bikes though few off them.
Just built up a Nicolai Helius CC with my spare 26 stuff and in all honesty one of my favourite builds ever - MT66 wheels.epixon forks XT m775 brakes nothing top end but an absolute hoot of a ride
Normaly I'd have been able to build up at least another 2 maybe 3 bikes from spares.
But for the first time in about 20 years I'm unable to even build up a new frame I've just accidentaly acquired.
Due to an upcoming house move I've been selling off/giving away/scraping all the old shite in my garage/almost every room in the house.
So for the first time in decades I have a frame I can't build up.
Not sure if that's a bad or good thing.
Managed to get rid of a load of older stuff during lockdown doing a free bikefix for NHS workers...
I can see the floor of the shed a bit better now...
So now I'm down to 1.5 full spare sets of brakes (2 left and 1 right) .. 2-3 spare hoses, spare 11sp drivchain excl. rear mech, several 10sp drivechains in Saint and Zee and a few old XT 10sp mechs .. a whole BOX of front mechs ... only 1 spare BB .. 2 spare shocks spare wheelsets in 26" down to 4 spare 11sp chains ... got a mate coming to pick up some old 8sp stuff and 24" wheels to stick on a bike to sell ... another set of crap hydraulics and a set of mech disks (technically the front brake on the DJ is really spare) ...
then running = 1XC HT, 2 bird aeris (one the kids) a mega, OH is using the T-130, DJ, kids BMX and commuter...
I need a bigger shed...
I reduced my spares down to minimum since a few years back. I recently built a "STW Classifieds" bike and rued moving some stuff on, but only had to buy gears new.
May be different to most having one bike, but I have zero spares. I have no real need and limited space to have parts lying around. Aside from cables and brake pads what else do you need? Very occasionally a tyre between seasons at most.

I can see that point if view, but I'm an inveterate tinkerer, and serial bike fettler and builder.
The building and modifying is as much of a hobby as the riding.
In 30+ years of MTBing I've only ever bought one complete bike new - my Genesis Vagabond - everything else has always been built up from a frame.
I blame my dad 😁 he's the same, growing up we had a workshop full of bikes and bits, and for my first proper MTB he bought me a frame for Xmas, and then helped me source parts and build it up over a few months.

One bike, zero spares. Get out of here you have no place on this forum.😂
Zero after having a massive clear-out a couple of months ago and just dumping 90% of the spares I had in the skip at work.

Wait, he doesn't ride it 😉
Loving this thread. I’ve got a couple of frames, multiple sets of wheels and plenty drivetrain bits.
Anyone have any 26” disc forks lurking with a long 225+mm steerer for sale?
Cheers Chris

Me ⬆️
Built up two bikes this year from spares, just needed to buy one pair of cheap brakes and some spokes to build up a wheel, first build was an old DMR with marzocchi Z1 bams, forgot how plush those forks were, 22 years old and still sweet.
Still got ISIS cranks, 26" highrollers and some handlebars and stems left over.
One, just about. I don't have a spare front brake set up.
I have the main components for two bikes but no brakes/shifters or cranks.
Have discovered 4 sets of 1 1/8th steerer forks and two sets of lowers.
Probably lots. From memory frame and fork wise I have a Specialized transition, a Colnago master X lite, Serotta time trial, original ibis steel, Marin IFT, khs Montana xt, Kona unit, azonic ds1, German Wheeler, vicious cycles metal guru, Giant Reign, an old steel European tourer, Hoo Koo e Koo. There is probably one or two more about too. I would doubt I have enough spares to complete all the builds but would have a fair bash at it.
I can’t make one good one out of three knackered ones. Doing something wrong!
- 1 x rusting cargo/utility bike needs a powdercoat and new roller brake/s
- 1 x P7 singlespeed needs new rings/chain/fork service and dropout-upgrade as currently slips
- 1 x Raleigh Scirocco retro Audax project needs everything except the f&f and brakes
None. I’d rather move stuff on so it gets used.
My son is riding my spares bin.
