Wondering if i were to get the train to leuchars, then cycle along the coastal path the next place it comes near to station would be leven (markinch station). Time to cycle that? i have read the part between st. andrews and Boarhills is a tad difficult so would just miss that out and take the road i think!

It's about 35-40 miles, and the hills aren't particularly bad. At a leisurely pace, stopping to enjoy the view etc., I'd expect to do it in about 4 and a bit hours.

markinch is miles away from leven.iv done the part between leven and elie and wouldnt recommend it,bit between golf club and caravan park was so sandy it was crap.would probably suggest getting off train in kdy and following coastal path to north queensferry(unless ur from that area and its ur local route)

well i ended up getting off at dundee, was cycling with girlfriend so didnt want to go too far, then cycled through tentsmuir forest and found a nice bit of singletrack in there! then just to St. Andrews, stopped for lunch on the beach and it was so nice and sunny we just stayed there most of the day! Was a fantastic day :D... mountain biking, in the sun, beautiful girl, picnic on the beach, bottle of wine, what else do you need?

Took us 7 hours to do Leuchars to Methil (based on photos). Was a pub lunch stop in Crail in there though. Ultimately bailed in Kirkcaldy.

11.5 hours from Tay Bridge to Forth Bridge on a later successful attempt.

Some bits are very hard going - mainly carries along beaches.

Yeah I agree with Marty- some bits you have to climb over boulders on the beach and jump down so will be tricky with the bike. You're never far from a road so can always bail if it's getting dark. Ive only walked it and it takes far longer than I thought it would because it's v 'wiggly' but should be fun to ride! Really lovely scenery! go to anstruther fish bar- apparently the best fish and chips in Scotland!
