How long would you expect a chain to last? I don't mean until it breaks, but more the time you would expect it to last before it's considered too worn and should be replaced.
I just bought a chain-wear tool and the chain that's been on my bike for about 3 months and done maybe 150 offroad miles (across mixed muddy, wet, dry, sandy terrain) cleaned and lubed after every ride, is already showing the 0.75% wear mark. Apparently once it fits the 1.0% wear mark it's time to replace, and I'll probably do so as chains are a lot cheaper than rings and cassettes.
It wasn't an expensive chain (a SRAM PC850) at only about £13 but to be honest I doubt the price/quality of a chain makes much difference in how fast is wears.
Do the masses think that this a reasonable time for a chain to last?
