I know the "what shoes for flats" thing has been done to death on here but how long do yours last? (depends on how much you ride clearly) Only asking cos my 5.10 freeriders have split down the side of my big toe after only a year. They're awesome shoes otherwise - the soles are still looking good so I'm a little miffed. The soles on 2 previous pairs of Shimanos didn't last more than a year, so is this standard, or do I need to look at Sombrio or Teva? Anyone had one brand outlast others significantly?

I usually get around a year out of my 510's,constantly getting soaked and dried doesnt do them much good. 😥

My Freeriders are holding together pretty well, I think they're about 6 months old and they've been used a lot. My old Basics fell apart completely with far less use. So it's progress...

Haven't used the latest Shimanos but my AM40s did pretty well, finally killed a pair after maybe a year and a half... But they've looked pretty sorry for themselves for half of that, and lost alot of their weather protection as they'd cracked/flaked on the outers.

Wow guys life spans on those shoes aren't great. I use DC's for flats and I've got 2 1/2 years out of mine and they've still got life in them.

I guess it also depends on use, the Shimanos got used 2 or 3 times or more a week all year in some horrible conditions, they were lucky if they ever got to dry out last winter, and they'd taken some knocks too (what killed them was ripping the sole off at the toe on a big kinlochleven rock- skillz)

Haven't used the latest Shimanos

My AM41s are holding up very well after a year or so's riding, and most of that in crappy weather (they're not my only shoes though, I swap to SPDs if I'm trying to cover ground fast). No signs of major wear yet, just a few scuffs and that. They keep the damp out reasonably well, dry out quickly, and don't die a horrible death if they do get wet. Plenty grippy enough for me too.

My 5:10's are on average getting used 3 or 4 times a week, they have been getting soaked on a regualr basis this year, I have noticed the rubber around the sides has been coming loose now and again but I just stick it back with supa glu as soon as I notice it 😀 tbh Im ok with getting a whole year or so out 510's if they've been used on a regular basis.

Not just me then! I think the wet/dry/wet/dry thing may have been their undoing. Twang - I've noticed (other people's) impacts seem to last forever so maybe this is the way to go.

I'm still using my Vans Rowley XLTs. They are the 66/99 ones from 1999. They are tatty with not a lot of sole left, but still going.

AM 41's seem to last me about 9 months doing 2-3 rides a week in all conditions.
The soles get ripped to shreds and bits of the uppers tend to get scraped up.
I'm gonna try a pair of Sombrio shazams when the time comes to see if they last any longer.

My 5:10 impacts are 5 years old and have finally given up the ghost. Thinking of going for another pair unless anyone can convince me otherwise

2 years for impacts and the sole unit is now ungluing on the right foot ( which gets the wettest) . Probably due to radiator drying seeing as they hold so much water.

If I was getting 9-12 months from cycling shoes I'd swap brands! Had my AM40s 2 1/2 years, used through winter - except this winter. Currently use waterproof Timberlands or old walking boots. Loads of life in AM40s still, but I regularly clean/re-proof.
