[Closed] How long do Specialized sidewalls leak for?

I'm a few months in to owning two different carcass types of Specialized Butcher, Purgatory and Slaughter. All 2bliss, trail or BlkDmd.

I initially had Oko sealant. I changed on three tyres a fortnight ago to Caffelatex.

All tyres weep from the sidewalls, most notably the lighter tyres. They also therefore lose pressure constantly.

Do they ever stop?

Are Specialized tyres just sh*te tyres, only worth the £15 sale price?

(We bought a job lot of tyres for all the mountain bikes, in a daft cheap sale. I returned three for full refund as they wouldn't stay on certain rims when setting up.

It's disappointing as they grip well and have a nice 'floaty' feel to the ride.)

Not that long with Stans IME. Maybe it's your sealant?

I use Spesh tyres on my gravel bike and on my local woods bike. Never had this issue with 2bliss sidewalls. Maybe a bad batch? That's why they were so cheap?

That's weird because I've used Specialized 2bliss tyres for about 10 years now & not had any leak sealant through the sidewalls.

From memory, I've used Enduro, Purgatory, The Captain, Sauserwind & currently on a rear Ground Control (Purgatory on the front).
None of them leak, or have leaked. The only Specialized tyres I've owned but haven't tried tubeless were Fast Trak. They were nicked off my Wife's bike when she wanted something more road-oriented & they weren't 2bliss.

This is all with Stan's sealant, so maybe the sealant is a factor?

No different to my Maxxis and Schwalbe with Stans.

I've never had issues with Specialized tyres, in fact I don't think I've had any significant sidewall leakage. Mine are all Grid casing if that makes a difference. A mixture of 2.6/2.3 Butcher, Slaughter, Hillbilly and Eliminator.

My spesh tyres have always leaked through the sidewalls, the older ones did it visibly from along the underlying sidewall thread patterns the newer ones just seems to be wet all over the sides.
I use Stans - not sure if that's a problem for them.

Spesh Butcher/purg, grid casing, stans fluid

Never had the issue you've got. I find specialized tyres by far the easiest to set up tubeless and so far have been really reliable.

I have Nobby Nics, Minions , Nano 40s and Bontrager XR4s on my bikes. They all show signs of some leakage, most commonly after sitting in the garage when it's been very cold.

I've had a 2 Bliss purgatory for a couple of years that has pretty much always sweated a bit. Doesn't really lose pressure any more but if the bike isn't used for a while you can still see a bit of sweating.

Had a ground control that was the same. All with Stans.

I though it was fairly well known with spesh tyres...

My Hillbilly 2.6 grid has a little bit of sweating but nothing major. One of my exo Maxxis at the back does the same (forget which one - must be a 2.3 Dhr2 or aggressor).

Just stuck a 2.6 snakeskin apex Magic Mary on a new wheel that I’m not using yet (waiting for an new frame) and I popped that on the rim on Saturday morning and it’s still holding the same pressure today and I haven’t put any sealant in yet. Impressed with that - although it’s quite a weighty beast - weighs quite a chunk more than the entire front wheel with rotor that it’s on.

Butcher purgatory and slaughter on my 3mtb for the last year or so.

2 bliss grid and BLK diamond all with stans.

All bought for £20 or so.

All fine here.

2.6 Eliminator Grid with Stans here - little bit of weeping but very minimal. Rear loses pressure at about 1psi/day,front maybe 1psi/week.

I changed sealant in case that was the issue.
The bikes are all used once or twice a week minimum, very little sitting, but they are all in cold storage places.

Hmm, seems a real split.

My Slauughter with Stans used to weep all the time. The Butcher on the front was fine.

Edit: done this before:

Pergatory grid 29" 2.4 with Stans leaks constantly and has done all year. All the way around the sidewall. I get little puddles in the shed. Butcher leaks a bit but nothing like the Perg. Could there have been a bad batch?
I still love the tyre combo.

Running Grids, Grid Trails and Blk Dmds, using Stans in all ours except our daughters who uses Stans Race. Not had a problem with any of them weeping.

Have had a couple of incidents where the Stans has turned to a tea like colour along with the consistency of tea. Still not sure what's causing that

Ours are stored in a non heated garage

2 Grids with Oko (thinned 3:2 with water) and no leaky sidewalls on either.
Both go up sand stay up fine after a short ride to settle the beads down.

Tyres are 2.6 Hillbilly & 2.4 Eliminator both from the sale.

Rear slaughter grid 29x2.3 leaked like a sieve with oko sealant... Changed to muc off and all is well. Butcher black diamonds seal with no issues regardless of sealant ime. Oko sealant worked well sealing a slow puncture in my car tyre though😉

This is a week old Butcher Grid, the Slaughter Grid that it replaced did the same as this.Doesn't cause too much of a problem, except the tyres are oily on the sidewalls and Stans level has to be kept an eye on.

Yes mine have always leaked. Stans, GRID or the old controls. I just put up with it but it is a bit annoying.

Most of the Spesh tyres I've had recently have leaked fluid to some degree. The last Butcher, Ground Control and Storm I bought were dreadful. Sidewalls look threadbare from new and it only gets worse as they wear. Newest Purgatory and Fast Trak have wet patches but not quite as bad. Thinking about it I'm not sure I see the relevance of mentioning the particular casing, had plenty of lightweight paper thin tyres from other brands (and Specialized in the past) that haven't leaked at all. It's not like Specialized were perfect before but this seemed to get worse when they switched to making their own tyres, and they got heavier.

Pretty much everyone I ride with has had similar issues and are swapping over to Maxxis or Vittoria.

Been using Orange Seal or Stans. Proper Orange Seal, rather than the Endurance stuff, is quite thick and good at coating the inside of the tyre so might help, but doesn't last long.

Regretting fitting a Storm earlier this evening because there's now spots of sealant oozing out the sidewalls.

Purgatory grid 2blis 27.5x3.0.. probably the weepiest tyres ever. They've been mounted for 2 seasons and i still cant trust riding them without topping up the air
Its like a foam party every wash time. Yep, still stans/revoseal sloshing about inside.
foamy
