Bought my Giant Reign april 2013. Its rather good. Blew up the 36s i had on it last summer and replaced them with Marzocchi 55s (also rather good).
developed a shock problem, so had it pushed and serviced over Christmas, new bearings too. Rides like a dream now...

Except post Dyfi, i quite fancy a 29er full sus. (im 6ft 4", and my reign is a bit small)

How long is long enough between spending money, and indulging? Ideally i would like a new orange alpine 5, but dont see how i can justify that to myself when i could get a whole on one coedine for the price of the orange frame.
a couple of Large ElGuapos left too...

I think STW should run it as a front page poll (if they haven't already)

I've bought a new bike before the last purchase has arrived in the past.

I'm a little more restrained now.

No new bike for 9 months (lots of bits, obvs, but the number of bikes hasn't changed).

You'll find the codeine a bit wee at 6'4"....unless you are a T-rex.

Interesting Rorshach. Maybe that justifies the XL orange 😉 which looks totally normal even in XL, thanks to the wagon wheels:

My Giant is a 19". I ordered it on the understanding it was a 20", (and was prepared for that to be a little small) but had to get it from America as no one in the UK had any in stock (i think they were phasing them out) therefore couldnt be todged with sending it back.

I can afford it, just feels really frivolous! (especially dropping what will end up being £3k on the orange)

I've had my Specialized Pitch nearly 5 years now and have so far held off the past 10 months getting something else. I've just been treating it to a few new bits and bobs instead to stop myself. Gona try and last another year or until it dies. Glad I'm not as indulgent as some of you. I'd be bankrupt 🙂

To be honest everything I look at replacing it with is of a very similar design since the Horst patent ran out so dont see the point (4 bar, vertical shock infront of seat tube). The Pitch was ahead of it's time so it still rocks......

I've had a permanent new bike itch for years. Just got rid of the credit card though, so I'm unable to scratch the itch as much as I once did, but even now that I have some cash set aside for a new bike, I can't find a bike that is definitely the one for me. A few contenders but none that jump out at me as being perfect. Was gonna go for a Capra, but dithered too long and now the exchange rate has dropped again. Think I might hold off until the end-of-season deals start appearing.

(just looked up Capra)

I saw a couple of those at the dyfi, and wondered what they were. They look ace, with that long link.

I think being tall, if im going to do it at all it would have to be a 29er, and it would have to be as capable as the reign. Light enough to ride properly (should i ever bother to get fit enough to actually do so), but burly enough to take the alps etc on holiday.

(still favouring the orange)

Those El Gaupo's would be ideal for that. At £1.2k or 1.5k depending on spec, they are ridiculous value.

Well, I managed to resist the urge to get a Five for a long time...
Until prices on the last of the Mark 1 Fives dropped in March. 🙂
Its very nice.
Won't win any fashion awards, but I'm old enough to know what works for me these days. As filing cabinets go, its got more ability than I have.

I've got a Specialized Enduro 29er in large at 6'2" and feel an XL would've been much better. It rides great if you've got the confidence to boss it around.

Commencal have some deals on 2014 Meta AM 29ers Commencal webshop

It's killing me as we speak, I haven't had a lot of spare cash for years (Wedding, Baby and now new house) and haven't had a new, new bike for 3 years or so...

I've come to the conclusion that if I sit about waiting for a big old stream of disposable cash to come back my way, I'll be waiting until Sept 2018 and frankly, I could get his by a bus tomorrow, so I've started a little savings account of my own - I'm not sure how my wife will feel about it - we're saving like mad for a mortgage deposit - but morally I think - I pay the bulk share of the bills, I put more in the savings (I earn more) why can't a have a little pot for myself?

Anyway, forgiveness, always easier to get than permission, so I'm tucking away a bit a month - if the planets align (YT has a sale, I can sell my bike and no rainy days) I will hopefully get a Capra CF Comp 1 in Sept / Oct.

Got the itch a bit, holding out for the 650b Evil Following though and we're about to buy a new car which will knock a bike purchase back another year- so it's looking like I'll have to get another 2 years or so out of mine. It's 2 years old and I had planned to keep it for 3 years.

Took me 3yrs to find the 1st full sus bike I liked, kept that 10yrs. Changed it last year for an RM Altitude after 18mths of wil I/should I etc 🙄 Gave old Kona to son.

Had my old Bontrager for 16yrs before swapping to a Blue Pig, dreaded steel worm causing breakages otherwise would still be riding it? The Pig is being converted to a "tourer/town/commuter" bike as it's not being and unlikely to be used singletrack again due to back problems, it just beats me up 🙄

Stop mentioning the El Guapo, it's horribly good value.

Depends on the bike, something completely new I usualy try and hold back as long as possible to make sure I definatley still want it. Whereas if it's just replacing X with Y (Swift for El Mariachi) it's usualy pretty impulsive as it's usualy just when something I've been keeping an eye out for comes up on ebay.

Last bike I bought was my Fatty last year, been mulling it over for a while so when they came up on sale I jumped.

But then I tend to go for many cheap bikes rather than one nice one. Why spend £800 on new forks when you could get a whole fat bike, or 456 for that.

I used to be quite good at keeping one bike for 3 years. Now it's more like 3 bikes, and changing one each year.

i've had an itch for the last 4 years!
the long haired general made me sell most of my bikes...leaving me with 3. we then bought a house and due to a lack of space another one got sold. then one of the remaining 2 got half inched from the shed leaving me with 1.
as it was a hardtail i bought a cheap full sus frame and swapped all the bits over and then spent some more upgrading various parts.
in between that child number 2 turned up so buying a new bike was on hold...she promised i could after we moved to the new house.
then the bloody car died and i had to buy a new one, then gonzy 3 turned up. so i've ended up buying another used frame and swapping everything over to that just to keep that itch semi-scratched.
still no sign of the promised new bike as the house is now on the market and we're saving up for something bigger...hopefully with space for a proper mancave.
i did buy a hybrid last year through C2W...but thats not a proper bike so it doesnt count! 😆

I'd love a new bike, but my main bike is a 12 YO trigger's broom Spesh Enduro or my custom spec 5 YO Marin Nail Trail (cobbled together spec) are just fine.
I'd love a new bike if someone would like to give me one! Sadly other priorities in life at the moment (like buying a house eeek).
