For me it normally takes about 15 minutes or so on the road before I get to proper off-road riding. So what's the average peoples?
About 10 seconds- unless I'm in a hurry
Bastid!
30 seconds for me
😥
4 miles to a trail centre or about 500m to a bridleway.
Three and a half miles and a thousand feet of climbing (nice warm up).
1.5km
About a mile, so four minutes or so.
Right over the road.
Closest is about 3 miles away. Nice ride along a cycle path to get to it though.
Seven miles, and that's only to the double-track 🙁
about 20 secs
Nearest BW is at the end of the road, about 20m away but it's not that exciting.
Nearest woods with some decent stuff is 5 minutes away.
12 miles on the road usually. I can do a different route and do almost
all the miles on bridleways and footpaths, but if they are really muddy
it can easily take me twice as long to get there!
I would love to live within a mile or so of some good offroad riding.
2 minutes.
0.9km to singletrack 🙂
About 300m to get to the woods in one direction or a bridleway in the other.
About 100 miles to get to a hill worth the name...
I can hold my breathe til I'm there.
Nearest is 5 mins away
I can drop onto the Trans Pennine Trail from the next street. The nearest woods (worth visiting) is about 25 minutes away.
I can see it from my front door , it's about 30 seconds away maybe 25 if I get Mrscarlos to hold the gate open for me. 😀
Last year at uni it was about 3 minutes straight into a pretty nice descent...
5 minutes to the bridleway which gets me to the singletracky woods in another 15. Bridleway is all uphill so I get an offroad descent home afterwards!
Or 2 minutes to the nearest forest, a bit flat though so singlespeed only really
Farm track from front door to singletrack is about 200 metres.
2 mins... If home.
Bloody ages if in Town (actually it's about 7mins to Lee Valley Canal towpath)
Pennine bridleway 10 m from my front door not that exciting though.
5 mins to some half decent stuff.
Over the road.
Front gate.
I live half way up blue pig, so maybe 5 seconds...
1/2 mile to not-very-exciting-but-leads-out-into-the-Peak bridleways or 3 miles to something more interesting. Given how many people have to drive to ride I'm pretty happy with it (albeit still a little envious of some).
10 seconds, doesn't mean it's worthwhile and certainly doesn't fit in as part of a good ride.
About four miles, mostly on cycle paths. I look on it as a warm up and warm down.
45 minutes to the Pentlands, 1:45 to Glentress which I've ridden once or twice.
Some wee local trails maybe 15m away but I don't know them so well.
Closest is 10 seconds , but more usually I head for the better stuff 60 secs away...
15 minutes
Regards
Denis
About 300m from the front door to some wooded trails.
Same as Sandwich - cross the road and I'm there.
10 seconds 😉
Zero. 8)
About 20 mins road for some nice stuff although I generally drive a bit further to get some variety. When I lived right on the edge of off road riding I got a bit bored riding the same bit over and over. Its also a short walk to hundreds of shops and other facilities so happy with the compromise.
Seems loads of people live as close (or closer) to good riding as I do then. Lucky people! Even in Greece I'm only 30 seconds away from good, technical downhill stuff - you just can't over-estimate the benefits of being able to have good riding right on your doorstep IMHO.
I live 2 miles from the High Peak Trail, I live in the heart of the Peak District
5 mins to a cycle path, another 10 mins along that to get into the woods.
About 20 seconds
Seems like I'm quite hard some by then, time to move me thinks 😀
About 2 minutes, though it is a climb.
100m
About 300m onto Ilkley Moor
Depends where I start, if every ride was the same it would be dull. Today it was an hour to climb before 25mins of down
Used to rent somewhere literally on the trails of Nant-yr-Arian.
Now, 1/2 hour away, but loads of natural stuff on the doorstep.
Way to many people lucky to get good riding on there doorstep. I can do bridleway stuff within 5 minutes but that doesn't count. A fifteen minute car ride gets me to hamsterley forest and I consider myself very lucky to have that. ?
3 miles to the foot of the Ridgeway
20-30 minutes depending on my mood
Five to ten minutes, depends on which way I want to go.
Lot of people on here live next to a trail. I hear that surfers like to live near the beach.
Just behind the house. 30 seconds at a lazy roll.
I'm about 20 minutes drive away from Keswick. 25-30 minutes ride could have me at some local-ish woods though.
Tried some local exploring yesterday on the cross bike- found an overgrown swamp. They a short section of singletrack.
Couple of minutes from some good natural singletrack in a small wood. About five minutes to get to more extensive off-road routes in a couple of directions.

5-10 minutes in the car for me 🙂
Not as close as I'd like.
Pretty much nothing on the doorstep but 12mins drive to the Quantocks and about 2 miles cycle to the blackdown hills.
About 15 minutes till I hit the woods and beyond. Nothing particularly technical mind but on the other hand I live close to the centre of a city with a population of half a million.
About 20 mins to the Quantocks for me
5-10 minutes, depending on where I'm going
It's about 300m from my house to the start of an ace 10min descent.
Even the climb back up is really nice.
Currently about a 30 mins ride or a 10 min car journey to get to Castell Coch or 25 mins drive to Cwmcarn. Yearning for riding out of the doorstep now after growing up with the Beacons as my back yard, renting so looked at new places back in the spring. Two caught my eye, one in Tongwynlais and one that backs onto Forest drive in Cwmcarn. the downside is that they'd both mean commuting by car instead of by bike so I'd probably ride less!!
We can get to a bridleway downhill in about five minutes, then another few minutes to the coastal path. We can be out in the sticks in about half an hour's ride.
Seems loads of people live as close (or closer) to good riding as I do then. Lucky people!
I used to live with trail out of the back garden, it was nice to be able to grab an hours blast but it soon became dull, I'm now heading for somewhere that I can be close but not as close to lots of much better trails.
In the last week I've ridden some awesome trails, all needed a car to get there and the variety was great. Well worth the drive.
300m till I'm off road then about 5 minutes to Sherwood pines bike park end. although I don't really ride into here unless with my missus and daughter. would rather drive to the peaks or bestwood, Cannock etc.
3 mins until I'm on the fast, rocky, loose descent into the woods. 3 really good trails in there. And you have ride past a pub no matter which way you exit.
25min cross city slog, one of the few downsides to where I live.
