I been given a spares / repairs rear shock and just for fun started dissembling it to see whats inside and get an idea of how they work.
The Bottom out and Propedal dials are very rough and gritty but the "do not open contents under pressure" warning is stopping me going any further.
How far can I strip this with normal home tools before I risk the loss of a finger or jetwashing my self in oil?
Assuming you've already dumped the pressure out of the valve, I don't believe there's anything left under pressure in there. And as you've gone that far already, I don't think you've got a choice but to strip the rest so that you can bleed it properly when you're re-assembling
Have you already taken out the damping fluid?
This is under pressure (charged using nitrogen) to give more consistent damping (don't ask me for details as that's as much as I know) so will spray out/could fire things across the room if you don't release the pressure at the right point in the disassembly process.
The only pressure I Have released is that through the Schrader valve.
Not sure I'll be doing a re-assembly, I think it was past the point of no return before I got it, was just curious whats inside it all.
