Out of curiosity how far in do people have their brake levers? I've got ruffian grips and SLX levers. I normally have my levers about 4 cm from the end of the grip. I'm finding my thumbs get tangled up on the gear lever. And my brake finger is on the inside of the finger rest of the brake lever rather than the end. In going to try moving the lever on about 8 cm. Which seems far too far. But my new wider bar gives me the extra room so why not I thought. Anyone else tried this far?
Don't know the dim, but it's whatever puts my index finger right into the hook at the end of the lever.
As Yak.
Levers set to bite about 10mm before they touch the grips. Better grip on the bars that way but nobody will listen.
Do whatever you feel is comfortable, no set rule. Fwiw, I have mine set so the blade of the lever is on the first joint up from the tip of my index finger before I pull the lever....if that makes sense?
All the way, but I lube them first.
As Yak and CHL inboard and bite point right up close to the bar
So the hooked bit on the end of the lever lines up with my index finger on the grips - miles further inboard than levers tend to be positioned on generic bikes.
8cm inboard sounds like a very very long way in for a Shimano lever.
I do have a photo of my [url=
gap[/url] for comparison.

+1.
And fairly close in to the grip in terms of reach. As much as possible I try to get the bite point happening as soon as I pull the lever.
As above, which has surprised me, I too like bite point so that lever is quite close to bars. For years I used my index and second finger but pushed lever inboard so it's just index finger now.
As far in as it takes for my index finger to pull on the hooked / angled part of the lever. And full bite parallel with the bars. Got long fingers and if the lever pulls more I get sore finger with lots of braking and it just doesn't feel right for me.
