Ok so for some reason I'm thinking of giving the darkside a try to help with my fitness but i have not got a clue about what size bike i need as i don't really understand how the sizing works, as i ride a 21" mountain bike do i just need the equivelent size road bike so just convert inches to cm or is there more to it than that?
I'm 6'5" with a 34" inside leg and weigh over 20 stone (may not be relevant but just incase) I currently ride a 21" 29er.
So what size frame should i be looking for, i know that length of top tube is important so will try before i buy but just so i can narrow the search down a bit.
Any pointers ?
Cheers
BigSi
Look at bikes listed as 62" upwards I'd say.
50cm = 5'3" to 5'4"
54cm = 5'7" to 5'9"
58cm = 5'11" to 6'1"
62cm = 6'3" to 6'4"
64cm = 6'4" upwards
There are plenty of sizes in between, work it out for yourself 🙂
Roughly, on flat top tube bikes, but always talk to the shop first
cheers nickc 😀
As with all bike sizing, ignore the nominal (seat tube) size - the seat goes up and down on every bike! You need guidance on top tube length (plus stem and bar reach). There are a number of on-line bike-fitting calculators which take leg and torso length (as well as flexibility) into account - they should get you into the right area.
nickc is spot on in terms of general sizing. I'm a shade over 6ft, and find a 58cm bike with a 120mm stem a good fit, or a 60cm frame with a 100mm stem just right too. its finding a comfortable reach thats the issue.
