Hello,

Has anyone gone from a long'ish travel full sus (140mm +) to a Carbon 456 with 150mm forks?

Due to maintenance cost, and simplicity I'm thinking of switching over - having never ridden a 456 I'm working out my options.

Cheers

Butty

I'm about to find out tonight. Assuming that I've put it all together correctly, we should be out for a few hours. I've also got a 150mm Cube Stereo which doesn't get ridden very much, I've already stripped bits off it for the new carbon 456 build, so the writing's on the wall already, possibly. Not sure I can justify 3 bikes

Whoop! Definitely interested in your thoughts if you can post up later Banana, comparison between the Stereo will be a good benchmark, considering my other bike.

I'll happily post my first impressions later tonight. Although I think it's going to be a fair few rides out before I have an opinion or make any rash decisions about selling the Stereo frame/forks. For me it's about whether I can be arsed lugging a big bike around anymore, just to go downhill a second or two faster. The things about going lightweight are, uphill bits are more enjoyable, you're fresher when it comes to techy/downhills etc, the ride as a whole becomes more enjoyable (I've often found myself just a passenger on the bike because I was too knackered to take control following a big climb or just generally towards the end of a ride).

You might want to wait for the new On One 456 frames coming later this year, apparently with lower BB and slacker head angle.

I have a carbon 456 with a 130mm fork on it, 2.3 tyres and a big heavy DH rim on the rear and and surprised about how much abuse it can take and how bouncy it feels.

Having said that, I have a Pitch also and nice as the 456 is, it's no replacement for the Pitch.

Good for winter abuse......

I have both an older 575 and a C456. I originally bought a steel 456 to compliment the Yeti rather than replace it. I changed to the carbon on the grounds of weight and comfort. The C456 is fun, comfortable and capable. It'll never replace the FS for me personally as the 575 genuinely makes me smile and i prefer it for longer rides.

I went from 6" Enduro to steel 456.

Best answer is that I sold the Enduro frame and eventually bought a 456Ti.

Buy the 456C, build it with existing bits and then ride. if no good sell the 456C frame, otherwise sell your FS frame.

I had a 456 summer season which I loved but it weighed about 32lb so I sold it and bought a c456 and just didn't gel with it, ran it with pikes. I think the steeper head angle put me off as much as anything but i hear on one do a works headset now if slack angles ate your thing.

Not trying to put you off I'm sure you will love it, I think I was expecting it just to ride like a lighter summer season but it didn't.

First impressions tonight are very good, altho I spent most of the ride just trying to keep up with fast boys. Looks like it's going to be Fun, comfortable and capable as said above. One of my yardsticks is how confident a bike makes me feel riding the little steep rocky techy bits (cos I'm a bit wimpy sometimes) and I rode a little section confidently without a second thought, a section which sometimes has me off and pushing down.

Whether it would replace another bike is purely a personal decision tho, not sure that anyone else could tell you that.

As P20, the change for me is from a 456 summer season frame, which I found a bit too heavy for me to enjoy riding. So, just wanted to lighten the bike, it also feels like it's got a bit more give/spring in the frame. at the end of the day, it's still a hardtail tho.
