Hope m4 - new pads (Uber-bikes Steve Peat the most wonderful compound evs) - two ride in, come fast down a hill, first 5 seconds is silent.
Then a metallic wail starts ....
As per Hope instructions , I have tried to make sure the front and back are parallel to the disc and equally spaced.
Any ideas - or just part of Hope’s charm?
Thanks

No need fo0r them to howl

First scrap the aftermarket pads and use hope sintered. Sand the disc and bed in properly.

Hub bearings 100‰ and rotor straigght/secure? New pads likely thicker than genuine Hope so likely less clearance/tolerance.

It's obviously an interaction between the brakes, rear wheel, and frame so just replace those. While you're at it, you might as well treat yourself to some new forks too, plus a front wheel.

That is such an arse as I really like my bike 🙁

Shame I bought four sets ...

I'm going to say the opposite. I use uberbike pads which I'm pretty sure are probably all the same.

I have 2 mtbs, both with xt brakes, hope pro4s and uberbike sintered pads and same rotors. One is perfect and the other squeals like a banshee.

Its usually down to how you bedded them in, what crap they've picked up, how they've worn, alignment of calipers or the way the pistons have moved.

On the howling bike I degreased the caliper, free'd up the pistons, realigned the caliper, cleaned the rotor and fitted new pads. Bedded them in properly and they worked fine in both dry and wet weather.

Before you bin perfectly good pads, have a play around first.

On the road bike I have xt calipers and uberbike pads. The rear is perfect but the front screams. No matter what I do I can't fix it! It always eventually screams again. Can't be the pads as the rear is perfect. Maybe just the acoustics of the fork?

Mine are these

It’s on the rear they scream. They are thicker than Hopes - but I will try OEM and see if it makes a difference.
Is it likely to be the compound?

Race matrix or Kevlar from Uberbike here.
On Deore 2pot, 4pot, Acera, SLX, MT5, MT Sport and Shimano cable.

Total silence. Super braking power and good lasting.

Eldest_oab destroyed a set on the Swiss DH trail, but it took 6 runs to do so, they looked like they have been in flames.... But they still worked.

Clean your rotor and pads again?
Have you bedded them in well?
Are you a brake dragger and glazed them?

Yes. I am probably a brake dragger...
Will clean them tomorrow

Thought I had bedded them in okay with some short , sharp braking ...

I've not had noisy brakes since moving away from sintered, I regularly give my pads and rotors a blast of muc off disc brake cleaner.
I have a ritual of rubbing the pads against each other under the tap before I put them back in.
