You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've downloaded the trailmap but can't workout how to join up it all up for a 2-3 hour ride.
Does someone have a ride review/guide link I can carry with me?
You won't get 2-3 hours from Rowberrow without riding round in loops alot.
Even at the speed I climb????
I rode here a few times when I was working on a site nearby.
As above - You'll be struggling to get 3 hours out of it. Even 2 hours you'll end up repeating some stuff. The trails are fun, lots of jumps and log drops and stuff to session though.
You can join it up with BWs etc round Cheddar gorge.
You could kill some time at The Swan - was a lovely pub when I lived/worked in Bristol and it was just a short detour off the commuting route.
Theres plenty of stuff outside Rowberrow, but its all 'au natural'.
Rowberrow itself is just a couple of community maintained runs. There have been real problems with the locals this year and and the Forestry have felled massive trees across everything apart from those two.
I did it a few years ago in the rain so it felt like 3 hours. I was guided by a local so I didn't take note of exactly where we were going. Maybe we did go off piste a bit.
Gonna park at the swan tomorrow.
So only the 2 marked trails are ride-able hug?
Within the forestry bit its just the two marked trails now (although one has a couple of options on it), it crosses a few fire roads so you can session sections. Outside the forestry bit there's a good few miles of bridleway. Ride up to the trig point for a great view. There's a couple of good runs down from there. The bridleway along the north edge is pretty good with stream crossings. There's a couple if other nice bits but hard to describe. There's easily enough for a couple of hours but you do zig zag a bit, not a big loop.
You can easily make a 2 - 3 hour ride, but you need to loop round or add in some extra trails.
I'd start at Tyning Farm, ride up onto Blackdown, then do the limestone loop (XC bridleway, but with some rocky sections). Then head back into the woods by Pump Track and do that into Lumps and Bumps (right hand line is the best) then into Yee Ha. After that, climb up to the top and do Xmas Tree into Happy Valley then Vicious Valley (bottom bit is tricky in the wet). You can then loop around and do one of the alternative Xmas Tree routes (left early on is quite technical, with some steep bits and switchbacks).
Lots of the better trails have been closed, unfortunately, so most of the harder stuff is only red level. There is some super steep black off piste stuff, but some of it has been closed and the rest you have to find for yourself.
DM if you want any more info.
Cheers,
JP
My mum lives in winscombe. I tend to take the road bike when I visit. Maybe I'll bring the MTB next time. Anyone remember the North shore at the ski centre in Churchill? Sadly that didn't last long. 😞. That could have be 20 years ago!? (Showing my age)
Early 2000s, so not quite 20 years ago. A rider broke their neck there and the resulting insurance costs are said to have put paid to the north shore. The ski centre has changed hands now, and the top of the woods is for frisbee golf. There are a couple of bits of unsanctioned singletrack and if you look really hard in the under growth you can see the remains of an odd berm or drop-off, but its all long gone.
