Apologies for the boring tyre post, I'll keep it as brief as possible!
I'm running 2.1 Crossmark UST front and rear and although I love the speed fancy something a bit more toothy up front. I'm happy with the width of the Crossmarks, but wouldn't want to go any narrower really. Does anybody have any experience of the 2.1 UST Ignitor and Crossmark who could enlighten me as to whether they size up about the same. I don't really want to go for the 2.25, but would be annoyed if I found it was smaller! I am hoping the diameters will be much the same Other than that open to suggestions for a fast rolling UST or TLR tyre to pair with a Crossmark rear.
Sorry if this may seem like a dumb question, but in the past I have not found a great deal of consistency on stated tyre widths.
Thanks 🙂
My Ignitor 2.1 are small for 2.1s, they're not UST ones but don't see why they would be any different. From what I've heard the Crossmarks are wider. You could maybe try an Advantage up front for a bit more grip and keep the Crossmark on the back?
I like ignitors, not sure how they compare sizewise but i run ignitor 2.1 70a ust on 1 bike and 2.35 62a ust on the 2nd bike
the 2.1`s are wayyy faster rolling 😀
I use the 2.25 Ardent Lust up front, I have only used it twice but it really grips and rolls well. It sizes up about right for 2.25 but should run a little bigger up front than back
I have the LUST Ignitor 2.1 and it's smaller than the LUST Crossmark 2.1. The Ignitor casing is only a 47mm width vs. the 52mm of the Crossmark.
I find the 2.1 Ignitor front / 2.1 Crossmark rear a good setup for most of my riding, and only change if I'm going somewhere really rocky.
I run Ignitor 2.35 up front when its muddy or sand/gravel, with a crossmark 2.1 rear. Grip is great, but the ignitor is heavy going!
Ignitors are "old skool" Maxxis sizing, same as High Rollers and Minions etc, where the 2.1 is a narrow 2.1 and the 2.35 isn't exactly huge for it's stated size.
Crossmarks are "new skool" Maxxis sizing, and the 2.1 comes up big for a 2.1 and the 2.25 is probably as big, if not bigger than a 2.35 old skool Maxxis tyre.
Confusing?
Okay, thanks guys. From your comments then, an Advantage might be a better bet and faster rolling? My mate runs the Crossmark Advantage combo, but it's hard to judge them because his bike is quite different to mine. I don't want to sacrifice too much speed.... I know, moon on a stick etc!
Should add I have a 2.25 Ardent on my other bike, and I like it in the dry, but absolutely hate it in the wet! I will leave these tyres on all year round as can't be bothered swapping them once they're mounted and ready to go (UST)
