Unsure how how to take this off, off a 1980’s cruiser.

Does it just unscrew or am I meant to be looking for any locking clips or suchlike?

probably a really dumb question but only ever dealt with square taper or hollowtech

Thanks in advance clever people

As said pedal off, undo the large nut (anticlockwise) remove washer, unwind large cone nut, slide crank through the bottom bracket, also remove the caged bearings, if your lucky they will still be in the cage and not go anywhere

If also removing the cups then get an old extension bar place through the bottom bracket on to the back of the cup and tap with a hammer all the way round to force the cup out of the frame

Haven't seen/had to work on a bmx with a 1 piece crank and unsealed bottom bracket since 1995!!!

Looks like an Ashtabula 1 piece (press fit cups)  rather than threaded cups

Park how to has pictures, instructions and a video;

https://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/bottom-bracket-service-one-piece

Roughly;

Remove the LH pedal

Removed the lock nut

Remove the washer

Undo the adjustable cone

Remove the bearing

Remove the crank arm

If things are seized then some penetrating fluid/patience/skill/heat/hammer/chisel/cutting etc as required

Getting those undone was never a problem in the 80's on all my BMX's,  They usually came undone all on their own every few days.

Like everything there's a nack to doing them up right ---like an old threaded headset .

Once you nail that they stop coming loose .

Nice big bearings in those.

With a bit of development they could have been much better than the UK system.
