Wheel is a giant slr1, and can't figure out how to remove the bearings. It appears you can't push then out from behind and im thinking a trip to the lbs 15 miles away probably counts as not essential right now.
Do I need a special tool And if so which one, ideally cheap.

Blind bearing puller?
I have cheap one off eBay think I paid around £20 for a side hammer and 6-8 different sized collets.
Quality is ok not as crap as £20 would suggest. Fine for a home mechanic that occasionally needs it once every few years.

You won't damage anything by riding it as is.
