Is there a reliable method for removing a crown race from a fork? Chris King.......or do I just have to take it to the LBS?
Thanks
I use an old wood chisel and lots of care, to get it started then a brass bar and hammer to gently tap off .
Stanley blade gently knocked between the fork crown and crown race, working round the circumference, then repeat using progressively bigger screwdrivers until its pings off works for me.
If the crown race clears the fork crown then a wideish nail punch and hammer do the job: fork upside down, rotate between front and rear of fork after each strike.
If crown race doesn't clear the fork crown, then a chisel works well.
