No chain tool atm (turned to cheese) - but this looks suspiciously like some type of missing link - yet plate on the back is just a regular link

you could try and pop it with a set of chain link pliers or needle nose ones but otherwise looks buggered
push the two pins together using pliers?
If the bottom end of the link plate is 'open' - can't tell from the pic - then just use pliers to squeeze the open end past the lower pin.
It's described further down on this page but basically you bend the chain at the point the slot link is and that frees the slot link off to ping under the fridge.
