Undone the top allen bolt and pulled out the allen sleeve it threaded into so that's released the top of the shock.
I've undone the bottom two allen bolts but the bottom of the shock won't release from the frame. How do I get it out?
Is there a sleeve in there then I need to get out somehow?
Sometimes there's an axle that you need to drift out. If there's two bolts that go into the bottom of the shock, this dictates that there is an axle or something that needs drifting out. Those allen keys won't screw into thin air!
To do that, screw one allen key in about 4/5 full turns, and give it a tap with a mallet.
no just pull
there's definately a threaded sleeve in there, I tried tapping it as you (anto164) described but it didn't budge. More force...? 🙂
Doesn't want to pull out either 😕
I had mine out at the weekend - the allen bolts screw into a bar with threaded ends - this passes through some outer bushes (top hat shaped) that go through shock.
Once bolts are out it should lift out vertically - as in straight up out of the mounts.
Got it, just needed a bit more encouragement with the wooden mallet as anto164 described. Cheers all!
