Any idea - a formula perhaps? The unscientific answer is ****ing painfully cold! Never forget your overshoes!
Only yoooou...
Hang on...20mph?
they hurt like ****
Depends on cadence, crank length, wind direction. And sock type.

I don't understand the question - what are these cold feet of which you speak?
Still good when we headed out on the night ride last year at -12C (according to the car - real temperatures may vary)
are you moving on a treadmill?
Wool socks + overshoes + mtfu = problem solution.
hence my comment ian re forgetting overshoes!!
Worse if wet! I found myself slowing down on downhills when we went out roadying round the lanes of the lovely Rame Peninsula the other day, my tootsies hurt so much! (and it wasn't nearly as cold as -1!) Much nicer back uphill though. Never thought I would say that!
Is this a riddle.
Is the answer two carrots?
Are you at altitude?
What is the moisture content of the air?
What colour socks were your wearing?
When my feet get cold (dog chewed my expensive overshoes) I just do a set of squeezes. At teh top of each crank stroke I scrunch my feet up inside the shoe and release on the down stroke, do it for 25 rep's, then 25 off, then 25 on again. If you feet aren't warm and happy again then your not doing it right.
Have you access to petrol and matches?
Toasty feet guaranteed, at least once!
You need a measure of blood circulation in there. I rarely get cold hands or feet.
Hmmm
Due for a 1hr road ride later, and looking outside I'm hardly motivated. Looks slippery/cold/busy/faceache etc etc
Another vote for the Northwave boots; they're amazing! I've got the regular celcius ones (Not as insulated as the artic) and I wear them all year round.
Feet were toasty warm yesterday at -2 and I only had thin socks on, should be good down to -5, -6 etc with some thicker socks.
18-20mph??
Put some effort in and they'll warm up nicely.

+1
Mine kept my feet nice and toasty this morning whilst the rest of me froze... It's my hands that really suffer. Yet to find gloves that really work for me.
+1 for northwaves
As for gloves the trick is (IME) keeping them bone dry, then even summer gloves are Ok. Not even wiping sweat off your brow, damp mud off drivetrain, fixing punctures etc.
Has anyone ever tried fitting motorbike mits to a mountainbike? Woud it work or are we not going fast enough to bother?

you can get bike specific ones.
I find that gloves are never windproof enough in the finger and especially thumb area in the deep winter. Most gloves have seams on several sides around the fingers which can't help keeping the wind out.
Next thing I'm going to try is some liner gloves inside my winter gloves.. just need to find some now, very few places seem to sell plain, simple liner gloves.

Pogies
They work really well. Subzero in the Cairngorms at the weekend and I was just wearing thin summer gloves all day.
I just have the basic model but they have fur-lined if you think you need that level of insulation.

Off topic, sorry, but I think it's Sports direct that are selling off Karimmor ones for pennies,or they were in Islington last Sunday.
I love a liner glove.
Decathlon do a cheap liner glove too. Well worth it.

you can get heated foot inserts and i'm sure someone was selling heated grips. Mmmmm, electric warmth.
Minus 1? Pah....it was minus 3.2 on my morning commute!
Silk liner gloves from ebay. Cheap and work really well.
No bulk to them, so they will fit under almost all gloves.
dhb liner gloves are pretty good too. More expensive and a little thicker.
toasty if you wear 2 pairs of socks and stick one of these inbetween them.
How will he get his leg over the bars if both feet are in a plastic bag?
Ah. Crafty edit 🙂
