I have a 4-6mm buckle in my rear wheel from a crash, Should i bother going to my LBS to get it fixed? or should i just wait till i have enough monies to buy a new wheelset? Can it be repaired?
As a side note the majority of the buckle is very close to the valve hole. and spokes don't feel lose and there is no cracks/ openings in the rim. Hub is fine.
It is most likely gone. Especially as the spokes are all still tight.
Certainly worth trying a repair. I pringled a lefty wheel once - experienced rider I was out with took it off and ****ted it on the ground to straighten it - which worked to get home. LBS trued it and it was fine for ages, rode it for over a year IIRC.
V odd occurrence - I think key to it was the initial impact on the wheel was really slight - barely a crash. Hit a root off-camber and it just folded the wheel.
I guess if you've absolutely cased the wheel into the rocks, big impact, then the chances of it rising from the dead are slim.
Sounds like it's a goner with the tight spokes.
At least one of my bikes has a wheel with a 4mm buckle in it right now... Pics would help to give an idea of what it's actually like, whether it's properly bent or just out of true or whatever.

I'd try a repair. I've built a few wheels now though and tried heeps in the passed so know it can be a but an art. Tricks to it, decent spoke key, small amounts of turn and tape the spokes at the start and end of the buckle to keep track of it.
If the worst comes to the worst you just loosen the tension in all the spokes take the wheel to your LBS and get them to put a new rim on.
Judging by the state of my wheels, I'd class 4-6mm as pretty straight. 😀
!!! I forgot to mention that i rode home on it no problem and the rear wasn't bobbing around. Also, i don't know how tight is tight for spokes but i played around with them again and some of them move more against the other spoke in the cross over than others. i can try and get a video of the wheel.
Also it's probaly worth mentioning that the rim's are Alex sx44's and some say this is a strong wheel.. damn i'm bad at asking questions, Next time i'll try to put all the info in the OP first

I had a massive flat spot and loads of dings in my rear XC717, but I did some rim beating with a mallet and some straightening of the sidewalls with an adjustable spanner prior to spoke key work and was amazed how straight I got the thing...I've had another three months out of something that I thought was a definite write off.
It should come back into line with a few turns of a spoke key.
Truing up a wheel is a skill which is well worth learning - all you need is a spoke key and a bit of patience. A quick search on You Tube will bring up a couple of guides.
By "buckle", do you just mean a few mm out of true, or is there some crease in the metal? In the former case, should be an easy truing job - hardly needs doing, especially if you have disks. I'd be more wary if the rim looks like it's about to fall apart.
I reckon it's more normal for me to have 4-6mm buckles than not!
The rim is flawless apart from the buckle, spent 1 hour looking over it cos i was bored no cracks or creases, took it to my local halfords today (lol i know) it's the closest bike shop.
Quick update, the wheel is now fixed. My local bike shop (halfords) actually managed to do something right! they took MOST of the buckle out, there's just a very small one now, only noticeable if you look for it.
