You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
This may be obvious: I'm converting an old on-one inbred from singlespeed to geared. It has horizontal dropouts. Do I need to do anything before dropping the cassette in? Presumably the hub will just sit snug up against the frame, and I can adjust the chainlength for the right tension. Or do I need some kind of conversion part? The frame already has the derailleur mount.
Obviously you would need a conversion from vertical to horizontal if going singlespeed, but I want to go geared on horizontal dropouts.

Yup, nope, bung the wheel in to the bottom of the slot, the mech will take care of chain tension assuming you set the length the usual way with derailleurs.
And if the tyre touches the seat tube just use a chain tug all I needed with the same frame but with stupid sized tyres I thought I was being clever called a fool by everyone 6 years later and it's all the rage +tyres
The horizontal on one dropouts with hanger were the best. Not sure why other companies don't use them on ridgid frames.
Harder to remove the wheel if you get a puncture.
