Sx trail II 2006 M + DHX5 coil + steel spring + post + neoprene chainstay guard = 3969 gr.= 8.75 lb
medium 09 enduro with shock etc is 3140 = 6.9 lb
Nice.
I had one.
It broke.
Several times.
Twice on the non drive chainstay (yes even the reinforced one broke) and once on the buttress that supports the seat tube where the shock passes through it.
But don't let that stop you enjoying it.
I_Ache - Memberagain as Hora said you will be paying at least £1000 more and upto £2500 more for just the frame
If you buy a new one. So, don't do that.
Oh- sorry, being rather negative. Just in case you hadn't picked it up, I think that year of SX would be designed for a wheel 6mm off the normal dishing- supposed to be stronger.
Now, I rode mine with a specialyy dished wheel and a standard one and tbh both worked fine, though tyre clearance was reduced with a normal one... But it's maybe something to be aware of.
So, if it's of any use to you, I've still got the MTX31 rim on Specialized Stout hub I used with it. No use to me, and it's pretty well hammered, but still goes- so if you want it you could have it for the price of postage. I'm unable to throw things in the bin 😉
My new bike is totally the wrong size for me, much heavier than my old one and supposed to be the worst suspension design for trail riding yet somehow it's the best one I've ever owned.
I think hora's enthusiasm will out weigh any penalties of the frame
Hora, I've got a brand new CCDB in 8.75x2.75" if you're interested?
Email me at:
mark dot megeary at virginmedia dot com
Hora + CCDB = wow!
Podge youve bought a new frame then?
Large - check.6ft rider.
FSR - worse?
How?
mildred nice but I dont have 375 🙁
Hora I have a DHX5 coil which came off that generation enduro. It's in very good nick, I used it about a dozen times before selling the bike. its been in a box for the past couple of years because I'm too slack to stick it on ebay
Email me if interested

You might already know this but you have to be a bit careful buying a shock for this frame. A normal DHX (air or coil) will not fit without a modification. The valve will foul the frame where it goes through the seat tube, which on mine is blanked off. Means you can't control the compression damping I think, it is preset (if memory serves)
No hora you spoon, my absolut sx V's my trance
Peter YGM. Podge Youve got dogpoo through your letterbox 😆
pooks just cancelled this am on me so its off to HTN not to ride the new stuff..

Not entirely true. I had an original DHX Air on mine without the boost valve on the piggyback. I managed to convince mojo to sell me the valve assembily and fit it myself, I had to talk to the boss and promise not to sue if I blew myself up! It fit my medium frame fine, I had to take it off to adjust the pressure but you only need to do that when setting it up.
Hora has a large frame so there should be more room and the SX has a smaller shuttle so the piggyback will be closer to the front of the bike anyway.
Hora, put it through Chris's & I'll collect it later
Pleader if you put a coil on your enduro with a softer spring for DH plushness you too would see it pedalling instantly like a large sofa eating alot of your newtons into the pedals?
Oh, I don't own an Enduro, I just test rode one. Decided I didn't need that much travel and found FSR too bobby. Went for a Trance X instead. Feels if anything more plush than a similar travel FSR bike, but with less bob.
A coil shock will obviously make pedalling more efficient, it just seems to be quite a few people's opinion that the suspension design is less efficient too, regardless of shock. And assuming that frame was about £200, plus £200 ish for a shock, you're really not that far off a cheaper modern frame in price. I just don't get the logic.
Anyway, hope you enjoy it!
A cheaper modern frame at 400 would be secondhand and still 3yrs plus.
A decent shock is half the battle then you link it to a decent set of angles.
Seen how much a large Rocket weighs? Lovely frame but 8.5lb and modern..
It'll be a great bike, as long as you build it as it was meant to be built (ie with large stiff forks, stiff wheels , wide bars, short stem etc) and ride it under no illusions that it wont be the most efficient up hill and along, but it will ok. Dont be tempted with noodly lightweight forks, light xc wheels etc. it'll prob weigh in at 32-33 lbs with decent kit (assuming air suspension) on it.
You'll enjoy it on the downs though.
I'd ride one now If I was on a tighter budget. The new (2010 onwards) enduro is very similar in philosophy, but a bit lighter/pedal friendly.
normal dhx5 coil wit boost valve will fit on a large with no problems.
it was the small and medium frames that it fouled on !!
post some pics up when youve built it Hora!!
Big bikes like these need a bit of weight behind them so they can ride big tough lines on actual mountains. Skinny lightweight equipment has no place on these bikes. Sit down and watch Seasons, Bearclaw has a SX just like Horas and he is properly shreading the trails on it. These are tough AM bikes not skinny trail bikes, they are designed so they can be slogged up a hill and hammered back down. They arnt designed to be whipets up the hills and minced back down them.
Total garbage. I could push a Demo up hill at the same speed I could ride that SX boat anchor. A 2010+ Enduro is another world everywhere unless you like doing hucks to flat.
JCL I agree the 2010+ Enduro is in another league but I cant find a large one anywhere near £300 at the mo. So it compromises in parts. Plus this popping up was to good to miss..
In truth the 2007 wont embarrase itself. I will but at least I will be safe 'hands' 🙂
WUN UNNERD!
Rubbish CFH! I don't reckon Hora's had more than 70 or 80 bikes
Fair enough Hora. Enjoy the anchor!
Didnt you once own a Devinci DH anchor? 😉
Coil + firm ti spring
Hora's old frame is now my new build?
Well it's getting ( cleaned first, polished, stickered and lacquered and I'm going to put all my Spesh kit on it including the E150 front end, which means peeps, that my GT FORCE one point zero c/w RP23 will be for sale shortly. Any of you guys with the coils to fit the enduro let me know what you've got we might be able to sort something out!!!
Hora, top man, hope your build goes well......despite what your mates are saying? 🙂
This thread takes me back to when I first joined STW and Hora's dog had chewed through the hoses on a set of Avid Juicy's. 😆
Some things just don't change around here and thank goodness some of the original characters of the forum remain still intact.
"The best forks. 2011 TST2 shimmed stacked/converted 55's of course. Glad I took the risk voiding the warranty doing that mod."
Sorry for the hijack, but can I ask where from and what size shims you used? I can't find any in the Uk despite being a google expert...
Didnt you once own a Devinci DH anchor?Coil + firm ti spring
Didn't you "downhiller from London U.K." own a rocky mountain RMX?
As you know JCL isn't exactly shabby on 2 wheels.
You could have bought any lightly used decent low BB easy pedalling slack enough 5in bike/frame and ended up spending the same money but for a bike that doesn't weigh as much as an elephants leg.
bigsam speak to loco - if he can remember the exact but go slightly bigger on the stack than mine. If you google mtbr marzocchi 55 tst2 shim stack mod. Itll bring up a huge topic.
Mrsmith it was posted in humour. I remember JCL doing a 4 hill 25miler in the Surrey hills on the Devinci and he wasnt being left behind. Im all ears though- point me in the direction of a 300quid modern lightly used low BB frame for sale (that isnt crack n fail). Im genuinely all ears. I would love a Lapierre but boy they get tired towards 400... then youve got to service the shock and I like my frames to last with zero maintainance...
ps. go and have a **** mrsmith. Get that pent-up homo erotic rage out 😉 😆
But you have no shock? So what's the budget inc shock £400-£500?
My money would be on a s/h trance X frame or some other sorted 5in bike there must be plenty in the classifieds.
My trance went for 450 but in large wouldn't look as cool as his new one, plus I rate my too heavy, too small too bobby bike way above the trance, it doesn't climb as well but goes everywhere else much better
Performance isn't everything, heavy bikes can be fun too
Shock sorted. Nowhere near that price and AWESOMEZ
I've never owned a Devinci...? And enough of the JCL hype, I'm old and slow now.
I always thought you were in the 1% Hora? I'm surprised you're knocking about on old anchors? I thought it'd be all Blur TR's and Evo carbons for you.
Peaks is very very hard on bikes. Gritstone gets into everything.
I couldnt face ruining a carbon mojo or Trc etc. Those are waaaaay too nice to subject to anything outside trail centres. An oxymoron as a Trc would be brilliant to ride 🙁
I have a Saint driveside and an XT none driveside crank on my bike so Im in the bottom 1% next to Stig of the dump pook 😆
I'm old and slow now.
you have a road bike now? everyone else has.
Yeah I have my mint mid 90's Merckx! However, road riding in Vancouver is depressingly crap.
Edit: Even more than anywhere else 🙂
I like my frames to last with zero maintainance...
Eh ??
You don't keep a frame long enough for it to 'last'...
Yeah I have my mint mid 90's Merckx!
8)
Fixie next and your cycling cap* at a jaunty angle
*old school retro team
No need for a full bouncer in the peaks imho.
HT a little bit slower on the downs, faster up!
I really liked my SX trail and only changed the frame recently for a dedicated DH one (thats what I was using the SX for anyway) I ran it double and bash for a while and used it for most things but rides over 10 miles were a bit of a workout .In this guise it weighed 37lb but with some sensible component swaps I could've shaved 4lb off it easily.
[/img]
even with triples on it was still under 40lb

didnt he already have something like this in the form of his 09 enduro??
the one you have bought just seems like a step backward imo?? why not keep the 09 enduro and save until you could get a 2010 enduro frame?
I never liked the 09 Enduro. I tried selling it to you. Remember?
It was 'ok' I kinda adapted to its tall ways. Never felt comfortable even with offset bushes in.
An awkward frame dialled and executed badly. It was the pig inbetween two stunning generations of Enduros.
An awkward frame dialled and executed badly. It was the pig inbetween two stunning generations of Enduro
copied straight from your FS ad for it I assume 😀
I believe spesh said it was one of the best selling versions of the enduro !!!
My TRc gets used in the peaks at least once a fortnight... But i have no mechanical sympathy!
My carbon FTM does twice a week minimum
I'll look out for you riders- I'd want a spin on the TRc 8)
Hora, you're a goon
You bought that because it was cheap and you cant resist a bargain.
You didn't like the SX you rode in the Alps with us last year, you say on here you didn't like the Enduro, so why have you bought another SX?
As a do it all bike, no hope, JCL is right, even with light wheels it'll be an anchor, and you're no freerider/slopestyler right, so it'll be for sale in a month.
I stuck a DHX3 coil on my enduro and its great, 12 stuck a DHX5 + a ti coil on his 2010, he cant fault it, that would have been a better bet.
Why on earth you think you need another four-bar that's heavier than what you've had before is crazy, its not like you can ride or have even broken a bike before, have you?
Love
Dango
xxxxxx
so it'll be for sale in a month
That's generous. My money's on it being on the classifieds before the end of next week.
EDIT: for more than he actually paid for it, obviously 😉
obviously 😀
He paid £295 or less from Andrew in Surbiton aka crazyknowledge
so £365?
Oh Dear God! Thats torn it now!!!
I predict a classifieds advert next week, a subsequent link to this thread, then an increasingly tetchy and bad-tempered, yet achingly familiar exchange, with a defence along the lines of....
"It doesn't matter what I paid for it,its what its actually worth that I'm selling it for......" etc, etc
Deja vu?

he will have added value merely by being its owner for a short period though 😉
lol
and then another purchase of something he's owned before
Have you thought about taking up fishing Hora?
There's loads of gear to buy and you get to sit down a lot, they even have shimano reels so you can mount them on the rod in an odd place (like your shifters).
fishing also has multiple excuses for a poor performance, bait, weather, the moon, tides etc so you never have to blame yourself.
They even have a forum
http://www.talkangling.co.uk/upload/forum.php
Looks nice. Can I have a link to your ebay page please.
All I can say is Hora, I admire your thick skin!
My GF’s bike is made out of that same spesh A1. I don’t know what goes in it but I assume its lead. The thing weighs a ton and that is a 14.5” hardtail frame.
don't get him started, he'll want to buy that also
Has he seen the Blur 4x on the classifieds yet... 😀
There's a Chameleon on there too, isn't there?
Chameleon....couldn't be a more fitting bike for that man.
bit of warning would have been nice 😉
If i wasn't so incompetent, i'd actaully insert the picture. But you'll have to use your imagination:
Can't decide if good natured banter

.....Or bullying
I liked that medium 08 SX but it was too short. Repeating my earlier comment on this thread...if it had been longer I'd have kept it.
BTW Dango that moustache is BACK 😀
Lolz
I love you both Hora and Rob, you're as bad as each other 😀
But, dare I say, the spesh will fail at the chain stay before Hora will have chance to sell it
The swing arm has extra gussetts/weld plates on the inside of the stays on mine 8)
Was that put in as ballast, to stop it floating away?
You gave me more than enough helicopter tape to weigh it down 🙂
Is that pic *really* Hora?
It's actually Freddie Mercury doing a Hora impersonation.
[Yorkshire]It cost 'me 25 quid. Of course I'll get my wear out of it[/Yorkshire]
Alas clar 8)
Well?? did it ride like a donkey on LSD or lance on EPO? 😀
Bobbed slightly but I did my usual route no probs! Youll see tomorrrow!
It bobs circa 1/2 inch and its lovely. 😀
Popo' witnessed it today
