Any recommendations for a shop that will service a set of Hope XC4s please? Needs a full rebuild with new seals in levers (pro) and calipers.
Hope won't do it any more and LBS just tried to send them to Hope.

Hope gave up on the XC4's many moons ago. Great idea, but they did suffer sticky pistons and pad widths. i had issues and they asked me to send them to them and they , at the time did a great deal on a set of Mini's to replace them. This was probably 12 years ago.
Did they say why hope wouldn't do them? If the seal kits are still available, it's straight forward enough. If not, you're buggered.

They're over 20 years old, time moves on.
(they do still have large caliper piston seals and master cylinder seal kits available though)
They might be old, but so's the frame - attached with a torque arm!
I might just have to order the parts and get watching youtube...
...might be fixed in 2021...
They were really small pistons in them and they never worked well as a brake. They were nicely made though, but the Mini's at the time were leagues above them in everything they did . Good luck with finding bits, but you might be lucky in just getting the pistons out , clean and rebuild with the original seals as potentially the only option.
Have a look at SJS cycles for Hope parts.
They have a vast array and you can even buy individual seals rather than full seal kits.
The calipers are pretty easy to work on as they can be split.
The master cylinders are also easy but you may have issues getting the circlip out for the piston as there is limited access, but they are pretty user friendly in terms of stripping and rebuilding.
Good luck
Wasn't the xc4 a closed system? In which case, the pistons are screwed in with a stack of wave washers inside them. Not that those will need to be disturbed. You will need some sort of pin spanner to get the pistons out though.
Interesting thought - would it be possible to upgrade them to an open system? Change of too cap required and something leaving behind the piston to make sure they don't go too far back into the caliper and stop fluid getting behind them. Maybe dremmel the threaded part down to about 1mm and flip the pistons over.
