Hello,
I replaced the bearing in my Hope XC rear hub today and am having issues putting it back together!
Basically I followed to onlines guides I found, did it all as per instructedbut when trying to install the freehub back onto the hub I cannot seen to get it back in properly. There is a large gap between the ub and th free hub. I think this is stopping the pawls engaging correctly and not allowing enough of the drive side axel to be exposed to allow the wheel to sit in the frame dropouts.
Any ideas what I have done wrong? Anyone else had his happen? I don't have any bits left over! Please help before it has to go to the shop for professionals to fix!!
Thanks
Rhid
Cannae remember the exact way it goes together, but sometimes find the O-ring gets jammed where it shouldn't as you push the freehub body into the hub. Perhaps check for that?
Have you got the spacers the wrong way round?
I have just been looking at it again and have managed to get the freehub in to the right position but the driveside axel is still too short! Its going to have to go to the shop!
I think the spacers are in the right way round......?
Have you got the spacers the wrong way round?
I was about to say the same, but just checked on Hope's exploded diagram and the freehub>hub spacer is the long one anyway, so it's not that.
Is the hub bearing on the freehub side seated all the way home? If it's not right in that'd cause your problem. Drop a pawl into the pawl ring. If it doesn't go below flush with the top of the pawl ring then the bearing isn't seated properly.

Mmmmm, still sounds like a bearing has gone in a bit squint and isn't seated all the way home.
Did you remove the axle and change all the bearings or just in the freehub ? Are all the bearings seated properly with the correct length spacer tube between them ?
If the freehub is going back and seating properly, spinning freely and engaging on the teeth, yet the axle is short, have you got the axle the wrong way around ?
I did change all the bearings and I am pretty certain the axel is the right way round. It could be that I have an incorrecty seated bearing or a misaligned one. To be honest I have given up on the stupid thing and will take it into the shop for prefoessional help!
Thanks for the replies and help.
