I have a hope XC rear hub which has a bit of a mashed up ratchet ring. Hope can replace this, but it requires send the wheel off to them. Anyone else had it done?
Also the hub lip seal between the freehub body and the hub shell, which way round does it go?
Flat side out?

Or lip side out?

Whilst the Hope exploded diagram shows lip side out (i think), its not very clear and i've always had them flat side out.
Can anyone give me a definitive answer please?
Having just stripped down my Bulb freehub I was wondering about this, and realised I could see the flatside (facing out) before I removed it.. that'll be the way it goes back on (with new freehub bearings)
PS. IF you think about it, that lip would try to curl up/out if pushed onto the back of the freehub, it makes sense that it sides on the other way.
If you send the hub to Hope for a new ratchet ring they will also give it a full service, including seal.
I had mine done a fortnight ago. Turn around is very quick.
They are a good company to deal with.
ps. The 'lip' faces outwards.
Dont need to worry about a full service as Im replacing the freehub body and hub bearing myself anyway. Thats beauty of hope hubs, as long as the hub shell is ok they can go on for years.
Im inclined to agree then that the lip faces outwards. Thinking about it, its the same for engine crankshaft seals.
Thanks for the answers, just need to get the wheel off to hope now!
I sent a wheel back to hope a few years back as the ratchet was worn out. They replaced the ratchet and I don't think they even charged me for it. Got it back very quick. The seal goes lip side out if I remember right
lip side out.
Lip side out on the seal...
Replaced my springs and pawls this afternoon , definitely lip side out.
