Looking to invest in replacement brakes for my Santa Cruz Heckler. Currently running Shimano LX (180 Front/ 160 Rear) which have been fine and were free so I can't moan, but I feel it's time for something new.
I like the idea of a new set of Hope's, but can't decide between X2's or M4's. My riding is generally in East Anglia (usually Thetford - flat as a witch's tit) so no hardcore downhill requirements and I realise that X2s will be more than enough but I like the idea of the M4's with 180 Ft & rear for sheer flashness!
In people's experience is there much weight difference between them and what are their experiences of both?
Cheers
I have M4's on my five been fault free since day one 183 floating rotors braided hoses just lush.
Also have a set of elixirs one of which (rear one) is now back with avid as it just pulls to the bar after 2-3 rides and being left in the shed over night. first of all they were quite grabby but have been very good when they work but have been bled 3-4 times by LBs now each time work fine for a week or so then just are a bit crap!
120g weight difference (according to Hope's listings). If you're not doing any looooong downhills you probably wouldn't notice too much advantage from the M4s.
Its not the slowing down you need to concentrate on fatboy, its your acceleration! You could just put your foot on the back tyre to slow you, at the speeds you travel! No amount of bling is going to make that heckler flash, as they say 'you CAN put lipstick on a pig, but its still a pig!'
Your not wrong. We've both met your wife!
Sure we both have, but the whole towns 'met' yours!
That's no way to speak about your Mum, sonny.
183mm front M4 and 160mm X2 rear is probably the most versatile brake set-up around, especially with the adjustability of the Tech lever.
Design and build quality complete serviceability; the ability to bleed easily and without spending another £40 on essential bleed kits; and, should you need it, customer service, are all superior with Hope. Plus, your consumer pounds will be staying within the UK economy and supporting a (relatively) small business.
