Using Hope tech 3 E4 brakes and ive noticed with the last couple of pairs of pads that the bottom of the pads are pushing further than the tops, so the bottom half of the pads will be stuck on but the top half wont really be touching the rotor. Anyone had this?
Its not like the pistons are pumping out more at the bottom than the top, the pads aren't in contact with the pistons at the bottom, just angled away from the pistons at the bottom. Dodgy springs on the pads maybe??
Have had this on my E4's and it is what you think, the spring pad. Haven't had it with official Hope pad springs but with aftermarket ones where the sharpness of the bend isn't perfect. A quick squeeze with a pair of pliers and then a tweak to add the tension back does the trick. I just use the original springs now and have a pair in the spares box in case one breaks.
Ah good to know its not me being stupid at least! These were both uberbike sintered pads it happened with. Good shout, i'll pick up a couple of spare hope springs. Cheers!
