Currently have a mismatched pair of Hope brakes (Tech X2 front, Tech Evo X2 rear). Will I notice a difference swapping them for Tech 3s?
Not significantly, but it might be worth using the tech evo for the front.
You should only notice when you are looking at them. Also, the Tech/Tech Evo master cylinder will sit more inboard on the bars than the Tech 3 MC.
Tech3 is a much better lever and runs less inboard than tech flip flop levers which can leak from the little port holes on the underside cylinder caps, they're easier to bleed too. I-spec b shifters can bolt straight on and I-spec2 or ev with an adapter, plus sram with a matchmaker adapter.
@Onzadog the back one was a replacement and somehow I’ve never got round to swapping them. It has crossed my mind they might work better that way round…
@teethgrinder I've been looking at this spreadsheet that ridemonkey put together
showing the differences in mechanical and hydraulic leverages for multiple different braking systems.
Comparing Techevo and Tech3 Master Cylinders the numbers seem to suggest a significant difference between overall total leverage between the two MC's.
Would that not result in 'noticeably' more braking force applied on the rotor by using the Tech3?
I'm interested in your opinion and experience as I am in same position. Need better braking over my TechEvo X2 on the front, was thinking about just swapping to a Tech3 MC only and if that wasn't enough then swap out caliper for E4/V4
@munkiemagik just go straight to the Tech3+E4 on the front. You won't notice a significant difference just from the lever upgrade. V4 would be overkill I suspect.
If all things were equal, you'd probably not notice the difference in leverage between Evo and Tech 3 master cylinders. It'll be a little bit cheaper in the long run getting a complete E4 brake rather than an MC then caliper.
Cheers guys appreciate the feedback, always worth getting other opinions when you have no way of physically testing all the options out for yourself.
Will put my X2's out to pasture in the classifieds and just be rid!
and @ratherbeintobago didn't mean to divert the thread topic was trying to provide some info that might help with the decision on what to do with your X2's.
Tech 3 E4 front and Tech 3 X2 rear on 180mm rotors is a good combo.
