Hi small dilemma here currently have hope tech e4 brakes and considering swapping to sram guide rs, has anyone used the 2 and what is srams power & modulation compared to hopes.Would i regret it ??? Feel the hopes are no more powerful than the xt's i replaced before that. Anyway thanks in advance for any advice or help

Feel the hopes are no more owerful than the xt i replaced before that.

Is that a problem? I have Race Evo M4 on one bike and Tech 3 E4 on the other it's always trying to find enough grip that limits my braking, not how hard I need to squeeze the lever.

Tech E4 (and XT) certainly shouldn't lack power... What is it you actually want?

I saw a beautiful review of the Guides- "when they work, they're so damn good that it's almost possible to recommend them despite the fact that they only work about 90% of the time"

If its feel you want keep the Hope,if its power on/off no feel buy them guides,i know what I'd be doing .....Hope,everytime,pads,bleed set up etc...

Don't even mention reliability & after sales...as Northwind says, they are Avid based arnt they ,nuff said...

I have XT on the FS, but went for the E4s on the HT.
I have never managed to have a light enough touch to stop over braking on the XTs. I can't blame the brakes, I'm just not programmed to pull that lightly.
Looking to put E4s on the FS now.

I have XT and Hope V4's. Hope for me everytime for feel and power. My mate has the guides and although he likes them he does faff about a lot when fitting new pads and they squeal a lot too

My E4's were good for about 8 months and then lost all performance.

I now run XTR Trail levers on Saint Callipers.

Reedspeed you clearly haven't used SRAM Guides as your comments are completely inaccurate. The Guides have equal or better feel and modulation to Hopes, with loads of power when you need it, that is from personal experience not just made up as yours clearly were.
As for long term reliability time will of course tell but I don't think so far there have been any issues with this. Most of the negative reliability comments are based on older Avid / SRAM offerings, and are of course quite justified.
As for noise, my Guide RSC's are virtually silent. Hope brakes I have had have all been really noisy. My guess is that choice of pad probably affects this quite a lot.

Replaced my SLX with Guide RS in Dec after the SLX started leaking fluid onto the pads.
Been absolutely fine, I even bled them when I shortened the hoses without the previously awful Avid bleed issues.
certainly no less power than the SLX and much more modulation. Pads have lasted well given the cruddy winter conditions and had no noise problems on Hope rotors.
Wife's Deore front started randomly pulling to bars last week, so a set of the RS arrived today from CRC for her. I wouldn't put them on her bike if I didn't trust them.

Andylc, my comments are purely personal and I do rate Hope, having said that people like what they like ,we are all different ,I just like the feel & modulation of Hope,I have them on 3 bikes, that said I've read good/bad comments on all brakes ...

At the end of the day the Op asked for oppinions & like you I gave mine ..

I've had most of the shimano range at some point, both my xtr trails were warrantied at different times, both within 6 months for failing at the lever end (stuck in), slx were decent enough but as with the xt's I found them a bit grabby, I've now got zee's on my alpine and they have both great modulation and big power, I'm very very impressed with them. My mate has guides and had needed one replacing under warranty already.

I just realised I posted in a brake thread without recommending Formula The Ones (post 2011). Rectified.

reedspeed - I loved my Hope brakes and was half expecting to change back after I got my new bike. Have you actually used the Guides though? They are definitely not on/off.

GUide RS are a great brake. Not sure if they would be better for you than the hopes, but they are great brakes none the less.

Had a pair of hope v4s on the downhill bike for a year now with no issues (2 weeks in France and a dozen uplift days on them). Have a set of e4s on the trail bike since August, again no issues, plenty of power and modulation.
I borrowed a set of xt's and couldn't get used to the lever feel and the grabbiness.
