Hi everyone
I'm replacing the seals in my Tech 3 E4 levers using this very helpful video:
I've got to the part at 15:40 where he's just put the piston back in the lever and has secured the dust seal with the T10 torx, however my piston is extremely stiff and I cannot push it in and out with my thumb, this means I cannot reassemble the lever blade and get the holes lined up for the pivot pin.
I've checked that I've got the right seal kit, I've replaced the seals in the correct way (comparing them to a picture of my old complete piston before removing seals & spring) the spring is the right way round (it won't go on the other way) and there's nothing stuck down the piston bore, but it almost seems like it won't go in far enough, the piston dust cover isn't flush all the way around either.
It's extremely frustrating as everything looks right, has anyone had this problem before? I wish I'd just sent them off to Hope now but I've done it before with my Tech 2 m4s and it was fine.
Are the seals lubricated with brake fluid?
No I'm using the silicone lubricant that hope always recommended for rebuilds.

Out of curiosity I tried the seal in my other kit (doing both brakes so bought 2 kits obviously) and the piston went in easily, someone must have put the wrong seal in the kit at the factory 🙁
A friend of mine had the same issue with a cassette spacer for a Hope cassette. Box/bag labelled correctly, wrong component inside. Double check peoples!
I've been sent the wrong mc piston before, never bought a seal kit, but I've cracked a couple of pistons so usually just buy the full piston, it's less faff, the stop plate just gets reused if it looks okay, the diaphragms get changed the most.
DANGER ALERT... Just watched the video, no mention of the cam grub screw, and using an allen key as a punch! lololol!
No cam grub screw on mine.
I ordered a kit and also a piston with the rubber seals already mounted, for £ 6 it was reasonable.
Also had to order a new pin as I knocked it out without loosening the grub Screw!!!
Update: thanks very much to Hannah at Hope for sending me out a new seal kit free of charge 🙂
Just bought the caliper seals too, may as well refresh the whole lot even though there's no visible leaks, but it's been about 3 years and they seem to be low on oil in the resevoir.
