i'm after some hope rotors, whats the best price around for 180mm / 183mm (£30.99 on tredz so far using ECWJ2R code)

front will be running on 160 post, so i'll need an adaptor anyway and IS 2 post on rear.

which do the E4s run best on, or is it all purely in the adaptors, only hope do 183mm, £12

as opposed cheaper 180mm adaptors.

(i notice negative reviews on CRC for not supplying the longer bolts)

weight saving negligible, sizing negligible. are they just to keep the purests happy

ps. as ive got your attention best priced e4s £125 a hand at ubyk and winstanly presently, any cheaper, deals

Just get 180 Shimano for a fraction of the price, and don't worry about things like wobbly rivets 🙂

absolutely zero real world difference you can detect? Just get whichever you can get the right adaptors for

I used to have 183mm Hope rotors on a previous setup but badly bent a rotor midway through a week away and had to waste a day finding a replacement. I went 180mm on the current bike purely down to being able to fit any 180mm rotor as a spare if I ever get in a similar situation. Sod's law being what it is I'll never bend a rotor again!! Absolutely no difference in the braking between the two that I can detect.

As Milky suggested, I'd go with 180mm on the basis that at least you'll be able to find something that'll fit when you need it most.

One personal observation from having used Shimano rotors with E4... The depth of the E4 pad is greater than the depth of the braking surface on the Shimano rotor, so.... 1. you're not getting the full braking benefit of the pad area... and .... 2. the point where the rotors arms meet the braking surface gets worn more quickly. Not a big deal maybe but it was sufficient to get my OCD twitching and I swapped to Hope rotors.

Down at the bottom of this page, Hope say they’ve standardised on 180 and only make 183 & 185 for legacy purposes...

180mm for compatibility alone. Gone from 183 to 180 when I replaced mine and as above makes sod all noticeable difference.

Get whichever hope designed them around? Sounds like that is 180 (183 or 185 if they fit will make no discernable difference to the power).

Sometimes mixing and matching works out fine, other times the rotor wont fit in the calliper, others it doesn't reach the top of the pad. TBH if you can justify the cost of Hope brakes then quibbling over the incremental costs of adapters and rotors is just silly. If you want to save money just buy deore brakes for £35, they're nigh on indistinguishable.
