Hi
I’m after some new rotors for a set of hope V4 brakes
Looks like the specific V4 rotors are thicker than standard but I can’t bring myself to spend £100 per rotor
There is an “ebike” V4 rotor which is also thicker than standard but a single piece rotor so I guess not as good for heat dissipation
Are any of you using a thicker rotor and does it make any difference to performance or change free stroke at the lever?
Cheers
I got some of the thicker "ebike" rotors to replace the floating ones that I'd worn thin. Not had them on long but no complaints! Went from 203/203 to 220/200 because more is more.
I know people that have had them and say there's no difference. However the TRP standard 2.3mm rotors are real nice and don't cost the earth, so if I had v4 still I would be running those just for the extra heat absorption.
I didnt even realise they varied between manufacturers
this tool looks interesting

Think galfer do a thicker-than-standard disc, maybe check them out too
does it make any difference to performance or change free stroke at the lever?
In short, no it won't affect free stroke, the brakes will just adjust to the different rotor thickness the same way they adjust for pad wear.
The only performance difference will be down to heat capacity/dissipation as others have said.
I have Galfer 2.0mm 223mm discs front and rear on my Geometron, V4 front caliper, E4 rear. Both work fine.
I didn't think floating rotors are about increasing heat dissipation, more about resisting warping. I'm pretty sure a big steel rotor will dissipate heat fine, plenty of world cup downhillers run one piece steel
I run the Hope V4 rotors
Brake feel is the same as normal Hope rotors, they just disipate the heat much quicker
Also the rotors are less prone to bending, which i found my old Sram rotors bent quite easily if they got knocked when riding/crashing or if something banged in to them in the back of the van etc...
Think i paid £85 per rotor in a sale year or so ago
I've just bought a pair of the 200mm x 2.3mm Ebike/V4 rotors- £45 each. Yet to use them though, just waiting an a hope front wheel to be delivered.
For Ebike they're good, being thicker, less likely to bend, and have niffty little lightning bolt signs on them to relate to their proposed Ebike use.
Looks like the specific V4 rotors are thicker than standard but I can’t bring myself to spend £100 per rotor
Are those not the vented variety ?
I run the galfer 2.0 mm rotors with shimano saint brakes, love them. Don't think there would be room for 2.3, however the 2.0 do seem more resistant to warping than the standard 1.8, plus in my experience single piece steel rotors are far easier to straiten than floating or 2 piece rotors.
Thanks all
TRP option looks a good price and available
My new fork is a 200mm post mount, would a 203mm disc be an issue with a V4 caliper? Am I likely to need a washer or 2 under the caliper?
Just checked and a 203mm rotor works fine with the same caliper on a 200mm post mount fox 40 fork and on my giant glory frame both without washers so I guess it Should be fine
Why 200/203 anyway?
Metric/imperial, I think 203mm is 8 inches which got rounded to 200mm as 203 was silly
Re the Hope "ebike" rotors with the lightening bolts in them, Is there a 180x2.3mm fixed rotor that DOESN'T have lightening bolts for use with acoustic bikes?
Seems Hope no longer do the 180x1.8 (which is fine by me). Happy with 2.3, just don't want lightening bolts as the original lightening bolt rotors used to crack.
I’d assumed Hope got rid of the “ebike specific” 2.3mm design when they changed all their 180mm+ rotors from 1.8 to 2.3mm thick.
You are correct. Everything non floating over 180mm is now 2.3mm without the lightening bolt.
Struggling to find them. All that comes up is old stock originals, or ebike lightenings.
I googled this:
180mm hope disc 2.3mm
And found loads of them!
I googled the same but they all seem to have lightening bolts on them.
Edit. SJS male it clear which ones they have.
Cheers. Not sure why I was struggling so much.
Running these TRP 2.3mm thick rotors on one of my bikes. Not had enough use to say if they are any better than thinner rotors though.
Came in about £90 for 180/200

Anyone running 2.3mm rotors with Hayes Dominion 4 pots? I've got 2.0mm Uberbike rotors at the moment, which are working well, but I like to keep an eye open for bargains.
