Approx 16 months old, was changing a spoke today and noticed the freehub body had cracked. How good are Hope at replacing them? I'm not particularly powerful or a biffer. It's also got some grooves between the springs, on the bit of the freehub body that sits inside the main hub body, can't see them being damaging but they shouldn't be there. Also, when taking the freehub off, the inner bearing race and seal came out with it, and a few of the individual ball bearings dropped out, but they've collapsed. Could that have caused the scoring? cheers for any help

grooves in between pawls is due to play in freehub bearings allowing the body to catch the ring inside the main hub body, replacing the bearings earlier would have prevented it. The crack would be at Hope's discretion as it's out of warranty now, if you are who I think you are bring it back to the shop and we can send it off (if you aren't who I think you are then you can still bring it into the shop if that is convenient for you)

I'm annoyed I didn't see it whilst I was in the shop, would have been far more simple. Might just send it off myself, not sure it's worth the 30 minute drive, unless you're more likely to get a success? I'll email Hope with some photos and see what they say. The freehub felt fine, so I felt no reason to change the bearings. Grrr 👿

another reason why changing to steel freehub body is the way to go? i'm assuming these are gold alloy ones cracking.

yep, i changed to steel before fitting my wheel, obvious from stories of cassette damage it's just a weight saving thing and not up to job. i don't really blame Hope so much as the weight obsessives for this.. i guess they should make the alloy one less crackable, if they're going to sell wheels with it.
